HUGO, OF ALLEN. rnrox coi xty ii:uh kytjc cowr.xno.v. Last Saturday we had the pleasure of Attending tho Fulton County Democratic Convention, at Kochestor, and a more en thusiaslic. patriotic assemblage, we have no racolbction of seeing anywhere. Although the day was totally untit for any ltind of a public gathering, it was a subject of general remark that there never was bo great an attendance at anv convention previously held in the county. What was better than mere numerical force, the greatest harmony and general good feeling prviTa'ied, not uniy in the deliberations of the convention, but in the minds of all present, relative to their principles and policy, and their duty as Democrats in tho campaign -vhich has opned. Past differences, if, indeed, there wore any, wero entirely swallowed up in the one desire of their hearts that our beloved country may b3 freed from the dangers of secessionism in arms, and abolitionism in office. The short time which wo had to remain, aside from that occupied by the convention nd the speakers, prevented us from mating the acquaintance of as many of the Democrats of that county as we should like to have done. They are a noble band, who stop not to sacrifice personal desires and ambition for t'ie good of the party, thus securing harmony in their convention?, and success at the polls. We would that the Democracy of Marshall were ml unlike thorn in this respect. Democracy in Fulton is not merely a tiani3, but a iallying-cry which finds a willing response in the hearts of tho poopie, and which, when used by such Democrats as that county can boast of, seldom failri of success. With them, every Democrat is a vigilance cominittco of ono to work for the success of the ticket; not depending on their their county newspaper and ono or two candidates to do all the work of a campaign. The principal speech was made by Hon. David Tiirpie, cf Whito Countj, late Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. To f that it was a god speech, would be b tie truth, although but a feeble expn n of it. Hh main argument was against the abolition, emancipation, negro-loving policy of the administration, completely establishing the truth of every statement ho made. Our space will not permit m to give even a biief tynopsis of the speech. He is a very abta, entertain ing speaker; and wo are happy to say that lie more than fulfilled our expectations, although we had placed him among our ablest men in the State. As it was im possible for but a small portion of the im mens throng in attendance to hear him, Mr. Packaid, of this place, was called upon, and spoke from tho Court House door, to an appreciative audience, in li id usual felicitous style. We heard but tho closing portion of h.3 remarks, and cannot correctly judge of his Kpfech, but the many expressions of satisfaction with which it was received left no ruxn to doubt its character. At the conclusion of Mr. Turpie's sjx?ech. C. II. Reeve, Esq., of this p'ace, was loudly called for from all parts of the house, and spoko in his happiest train for about a half hour, frequently bringing tho house down with rounds of applause. The assemblage then dispersed, every man feeling that it was good for him to be there. The following excellent ticket was nominated, and will be elected: For Representative, X. (I. Shaffer; Auditor. A. J. Holmes (pre.sont incumbent): Tieaturer. Win. Sturgeon; iShurilF, Isaac food ("present incumbent). .-. Aitsncn AOTIO.V Under the abo e heading, the Xcw "orl. In compliance with the generally expressed wish of the Democracy of Indiana, tho truo friends of Constitutional Liberty, tho Democratic State Central Committee invite tho people of the State, without regard to past party affiliation, who desiie to " preserve the Constitution as it Is, and the Union as it Was," to meet in MASS CONVENTION, AT INDIANAPOLIS, ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 30th, 1CC2. The navigation of Whito Hiver is now open to (lea. Curtis' army to Jacksonport. The President returned yesterday from his visit to West Point. Speculation is ns usual life as to his mission, but nothing is known beyond ihe fact that ho visited Gan. Scott, whom he did not lind in very good health. The speech of Senator IJrowning against any confiscation whatever is regarded as s gnilicant of the conservative elements, who declare that he reprowonts tho views nf the President, who will veto the confiscation bill if it pavse. Gen. Shields did not get a single vote in executive session for his confirmation as Major General. It is elated that he and Stonewall Jackson are brothers-in-law. New Orleans advices state that the four men sentenced to bfl hung by order of Gen. Hutler, for robbing citizens, were executed on the 7lh. Com. Porter's mortar fleet had gono to Vicksburg. Com. l arragut was before Vicksburg. A portion of hia tlect had routed tho

Popo is a dashing, bravo officer j much overrated, but, wo believe, an im- ' . provsment on any commander we have ; yet had in the Valloy. Ilia great characteristic is go-aheadativeness. Ho belongs to the go in style of military men, and, in that particular line, Nelson who comes very near being a brute is the only one of Ila'.leck's commanders who exceeds him. A dispatch received at tho War Department this P. M. from Gen. McClellan states that wo hold the new picket lino undisturbed, and all is now quiet on tho banks of the Chickahominy. The forcos under Major Generals Fremont, Rinks and McDowell have been consolidated into one army, called the Army of Virginia, and Major Geneial Pope has been especially assigned by tho President to tho chief command. Tho forcos under Fremont constitute Mist army corps, and are to be com-! manded by him; tho forces under Gen. ; IJanks constitute the second army corps j and aro to bo commanded by him ; iho forces under Gen. McDowell constitute the third army corps, and aro to bo commanded by him.
