According to Republican ideas of government, if a man is reported by some prying official or cowardly enemy, as disloyal, he is forthwith arrested without
warrant, and refused any kind of a trial whatevei ; but if a defrauder should be arrested, (such a thing has not yet been heard cf under tho present Administr.v tion, ) ho is to have a fair, speedy tiiul. Tiiis is a specimen of the governing qualities of the great, moral Republican party of freedom. The freedom is for members of the administration party to steal ad libitum; freedom for officers of the government to arrest peaceable, lawabiding citizens, and consign them to a prison, to remain theie during the pleasure of the 1'resident. Schuyler seems determined that Hon. shall not bo applicable to that gentleman alone, lie has been the especial defender in Congress of Fremont's frauds and peculations in Missouri, and now comes furward in behalf of thieves in general. Niggers and thieves are tho espec'ud fraud, have demonstrated lhat there have been tho grossest and most llagrant frauds perpetrated in the War and Navy Departments, iti the purchase of arms, horses, vessels, &c, besides innumerable other frauda of greater and less magnitude. The people were inclined to hold the heads of the di tie rent departments in which tit? frauds were perpetrated, responsible, until Old Abo's recent message on the subject, in which he tells them that it wai the work of himself and his entire Cabinet. The Investigating Committees are controlled bv men of tho President's own party, and all the other avenues to information concerning fraud and corruption, are in thy hands of tho Republicans; so that anv information coming through those tsourcfs may be regarded as favorable to j the administration as circumstances would j permit. Tho reckless expendituro of monoy by irremoni in .M.bsoun was tho work of tlie ! administration. The hiring of Ueorgo I). Morgan, who fleeced the government out of over one bundled thousand dollars, was tho work of the administration. The buying of old, lame, blind aid dead hotses, at exorbitant pi ices for good iones, of favored partisans in Pennsylvania, wab the work of tho administraJ tion. !
