From I'ltMiurg. Cario, April 21. The steamer Mussulman arrived to-day from Pittsburg Landing, having left that place on Saturday ever.hg. She biing3 no of epecinl im portance, but a passenger reports that
the T 'enuessee has ajfain commenced ris ing lapidly, and that the roads in tho vi cinity of Pittsburg are in a wre'ehed condition bv reason of the iate fall of rain. Forage can only be distributed by being hang on the backs of mules, and army wagons are stuck fast in the mud. In view of the present condition of roads around Pittsburg, it is far tu iofjr that the great battle which has been momentarily expected the last week will not transpire in at least a week to come. Our army at Pittsburg is in excellent fi;htinfr condition. The regiments that weio so frightfully decimated at the bio contest are being reorganized, and 'hanks to the activity of Gen. Ilalleck -very dii sion, brigade, regiment, and company are prepared to meet the enemy with an uu broken front. Our icouts penetrate directly to the enemy's lines and bring back intelligence. who is chief in command, iä ac,ivel 'naS in throw.ng up in- ! trenchmenls along his whole line, planting j batteries and preparing for a systematic defence. This intelligence is deemed reliable, inasmuch as the statements of scouts are corroborated by those of deserters. It is thought that the rebels will act merely on the defensive, and that the aggiessive attack will be made by Halleck, and that, too, at an early day as possible. It is known that Beauregard has been greatly reinforced, and that forced levies of troops are continually swelling his ranks. No intelligence lias been received resi pecting tho recovery of tho bdy of Gov. airesi oi uns nomrcai general nna . 1 0 ms con. nemeni at ft. J.outs is thus noticed T . ,, ... , , III 1 IIV l-l. McClcllun, Lincoln mid .Stanton. The Philadelphia Ledger, in noticing tho report of Mr. Stanton's probable resignation, gives the following information
! which is important, if true: The above rumor is probably premature, but it points to a concluiion which seems very likely to happen. Mr. Lincoln, it 13 said, does not approve of the manner in which Mr. Stanton is represented to have rejected the advice of our best genends, and insisted on carrying on the campaign according to his on ideas. As an illustration of the disastrous results folowing from this system, it may be mentioned that the pushing of Banks across the Potomac was done, it is alleged, in the face of a decided opposition on the part of Gea. McClellan's original plan to move on Hich mond while the enemy were still at Manassas, and to cut them off and capture rhem. When he found that Banks was to be made independent of him, and sent over the Potomac, he protested against it, pointing out that such a measure would result in the immediate evacuation of Manassas, and that the plan of the campaign would thus be altogether broken up. The event has justified the prediction. The troubles in the Cabinet, it is said, grew out of the difference of view in regard to the Virginia campaign, Mr. Lincoln himself supporting Gen. McClellan's plans. Such differences cennot exist without leading to a result such as the above rumor probably anticipates. The Forts above Memphis. The names of the fortifications of the rebel this side of Memphis are: First Fort Pillow, named after the rebel General, Second, Fort Wright, at Randolph, named after Lieut. Colon 1 Marcus J. Wright, of Col. Preston Smith's 151th Tennessee Regiment (number derived from number of district under Tennessee militia law) who first i commanded at that point, going there about one year ago with four of the Memphis crank companies, sinci which time the fortifications have been in progress. Third, Fori Harris, six miles above Memphis, named after Governor Isham G. Harris, of Tennessee. Hartford, Ct.. 20. New Volk, April 21. The city of Apalachicola has been sue-ee-slulU occupied by our troops, thus giving us another important point in Florida. The r apture was effected by the gun bonis Mercediu and Sagamore, with little opposition, un the 3d inst. A few sheila dispersed the rebels, and the now retddent portion of the population were found in n almost starving condition. The blockade had effectually cut off the supplies from the seaboard, and their resources from tho inland were not sufficient to mantain the ordinary comforts of li fe. Under these circumstances, it is not to lw wondered at that tho p-?oplo ßhot-M proclaim loialty to the Union. lrci(lrntlal IIiippincuM.
