On Friday l ist, at about 5 o'cloek, the house of Mr: Crampton, living six miles west of this place, took fire from his smoke house in which he was smoking his meat, and burned entirety Gown, and destroyed everything in it. We have not been informed how much thi probable loss is. No matter what the value is, it U a sad thing to have a house burned. Appologetic. Some weeks asro we received from our friend John S. Bender, f Knox, a notice of dedication of a new M E Church, in tLat place, which we intended publishing, but it, with our memorandum book ha3 been misplaced so that we cannot find them. This will account to our frieids for the nonappearance of the notice. Obituary. Diwd at bis residenc about two miles west of this place, on Sunday morning last, General William Bailet. Ha was one of tho ohle.'t settlers in the countj and one of its most respected citiaena. He had reached a good old Z" bei?nj about seventy-nine years old. lie had a large circle of friends and relatives who mourn his logs. His funeral was largely attended. Post Office Removed, kc. Yesterday the Post 03ice wa3 moved into the building one door north of the bank building, where our citizens will find their mail matter arid the attentive P.M. ready to wait on them. In the same building may be found an extensive stock of Boots and Shoes. The attention of the reader is ca'k-d to the advertisement of the proprietor, J. F. Van Valkenbnrgh, who has just replenished his stock for the spring trade. He also manufactures everything in hi line out of the best stock and in the latest style. Boots axd Shoes. E. Paul's new advertisement will not fail to attract the attention of the reader. Mr. Paul is doing a good and thriviLg business. He has in his employ the beat of workmen and keeps the finest of stock, which they make up to fit well as to order. The quiet state of our corns this dimp weather, induces us to say to our readers that, if they want an easy neat and serviceable boot, they should do as we have done leave their measure and get a pair of those eay boots. Jcvemlk Concert. The concert riven by Prof. Kane and his juvenile scholars on Friday evening was a pretty good entertainment, in fact, for the time he had tramsd them, it was very good. The performance of the pupils showed that as a teache r Mr.Kane had th facility of imparting instruction. The attendance was good and all were well pleased. Little Bennie," was a sweet thinjr and was well san". It was the best on the programme. Parents cannot do better than send their children to such schools. It is calculated to improve them in everything that is good and useful. For the encouragement of our little friends we say they did well, and many of them have the qualifications to become good singers, and we hope they ill improve the talents they are blessed with.
