Council Proceedings The city council met in regular session Monday evening, January 28, with all members but Jacob Ness, present A petition to tap the Walnut street sewer was presented by Joseph Swindell, and said petition was granted by the council. The pavement of Washington street from Michigan to Plumb street, was petitioned; signed by Frank Jacox, John S. Bender, Theodore Cressner and others. This petition was referred to the committee on streets and alleys. The superintendent of city water works in his report, stated that during the year ending Dec. 31, 'OG, there had been laid, 460 feet of 6 inch, and 1380 feet of four inch iron pipe in the city. Before there had been 9200 feet of wood pipe, now there is 7300 feet. The total amount of rent collected from use of water was $2935.10. Amount expended $1883.70, making a total profit of $1049.40. The machinery of the plant is all reported in good condition. The west boiler has been tested and found safe. but the east one requires about 12 new flues. If unclaimed these fowls are to be rold at public auction. No provision is made advising our marshal how to catch the offending birds but we would suggest a fowlers' net or the judicious administration of table salt upon the tail feathers of the miscreants. Hope for Governor's Veto. The announcement in South Bend that the Superior Court bill creating a circrit of St. Joseph and Elkhart counties passed the Senate Friday was received unfavorably In South Bend and Goshen and strong pressure will be brought to bear on Governor Hanly to put his veto to the measure. Goshen and the farmers of Elkhart county oppose the bill because of additional expense it will place on the county. South Bend is not thinking of the expanse but fears that a joint Superior Court will be too aeeply tinged with politics to make it all that a court of justice should be.

Rheumatism I hare found a tried and tested cure for Bbao matism! Kot a remedy that will itr&i Men tht distorted lnuba of chronic cripple, nor tarn bony growths back to flesh again. That is Impossible. But I can now surely kill the pains and pane cf this deplorable disease. In Germany 'With a Chemist in the City of Darmstadt I found the last ingredient with which Dr. Sboop's Rheumatic Remedy was made a perfected, dependable prescription. Without that last ingredient, I successfully treated many many cases of Rheumatism ; but now. at last, it uniformly cures all curable cases of this heretofore much dreaded disease. Those sand-like granular wastes, found in Rheumatic Blood, seem to dissolve and pass away under the action of this remedy a freely as does sugar when added to pure water. And then, when dissolved, these poisonous wastes freely rasa from the system, and the cause of Rheumatism is gone forever. There is now no real need no actual excuse to suffer longer with, out help. Treating -Wrong Disease. Many times women call on their family physicians, suffering, as they imagine, one from dyspepsia, another from heart disease, another from liver or kidney disease, another from nervous exhaustion or prostration, another with pain here and there, and in this way they all present alike to themselves and their easy-goi:ig. and indifferent, or over-busy doctor, separate and distinct diseases, for which he, assuming them to bo such, prescribes his pills and potions. In reality, they are all only eymvtom$ caused by some uterine disease. The physician, ignorant of the cause of suffering, encourages thiff practice until large bills-are made. The suffering patient gets no better, but probably worse, by reason of the delay, wrong treatment and consequent complications. A proper medicine like Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription, directed to the cause would have entirely removed the.disease, thereby dispelling all those distressing symptoms, and instituting comfort Instead of prolonged misery. It has been well said, that "a disease known is naif cured." Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription Is a scientific medicine, carefully devised by an experienced and skillful physician, and adanted to woman's delicate system. It is made of native medicinal roots and is perfectly harmless In its effects in any condition of the sysxm. As a powerful invigorating tonic "Favorite Prescription imparts strength to the whole system and to the organs distinctly feminine in particular. For overworked, "worn-out, "run-down," debilitated teachers, milliners, dressmakers, seamstresses, shop girls," house-keepers, nursing mothers, and feeble women generally. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription is the greatest earthly boon, being unequaled as an appetizing cordial and restorative tonic. As a soothing and strengthening nervine "Favorite Prescription " is unequaled and is Invaluable in allaying ana subduing nervous excitability, irritability, nervous exhaustion, nervous prostration, neuralgia, hysteria, spasms, chorea, St. Vltus's dance, and other distressing, nervous symptoms commonly attendant upon functional and organic disease of the uterus. It induces refreshing sleep and relieves mental anxiety and despondency. Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets invigorate the stomach, liver and bowels. One to three a dose. Easy to take as candy.
