A C2EAL7UVOLD AGE OFTEN TUE PEST PART OF LIFE Help for Women Passing Through Clx&nsre of Life

Providence has allotted us each at least seventy years In which to fulfill our mission in life, and it is generali j cur own i amt u we die prematurely. Nervous exhaustion invites disease. This statement is the positive truth. When everything becomes a burden and you cannot walk a few blocks wi tiout excessive fatigme, and you break out into Perspiration easily, and your xace nushes, ana you grow excited and shaky at the least provocation, and you cannot bear to be crossed in anything, you are in danger ; your nerves have given out ; you need building up at once ! To build up woman's nervous system and during the period of change of life we know of no better medicine than Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Ilere is an illustration. Mrs. Mary L. Koehce, 3f 1 Garfield Avenue, Chicago, 111., writes: 44 1 have used Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound for years in my family and it never disappoints ; so when I felt that I was nearingthechanjre of life I commenced treatment with it. I took in all about six bottles and it did me a great deal of good. It topped my dizzy spells, jains in my back and the headaches with which I had suffered for months before taking the Compound. I feel that if it had not been for this great medicine for women hat I should not have been alive to-day. It is splendid for women, old or Joung, and will surely cure all female discrer.'? Mrs. Pinkhara, of Lynn, Mass., incites all sick and ailing women to write her for advice. He great experience is at their service, free of cost. Making Paper In m, Hurry. A trial was recently made in Austria to see how rapidly a living tree could be converted into a newspaper. Three trees were cut down at 7:30 one morning, at 90 they had been cut up, the logs stripped of the bark and converted into pulp. It took only a few minutes to make the pulp into paper and rush it to a newspaper office, and just 143 minutes after the first cut had been made in the first tree a paper made from it was on sale in tha streets. It was not uuti about six years ago that I found a remedy that bad virtue enough in it to reach my case. That was Dr.Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People, and they have siuce en tirely cured me." ' Did it take long to effect a cure? "No ! I hadn't taken the whole of the first box before I saw a great improve ment. So I kept on using them, growing better all the time.nutil I had taken eight boxes and then I was perfectly well, and I have remained in good health ever since with one exception." "What was that?" 14 Oh ! that was when I had the grip I was in bed, under the doctor's care, for two weeks. When I got up I had dreadful attacks of dizziness. I had to grasp hold of something or I would fall right down. I was just miserable, and when I saw the doctor was not helping me, I began to tako Dr. Williams' Pink Pills again. Roy White of Ross Heights, 18 years old, ate fortj--eight bananas on a wager, and lived to tell the tale. The fruit was of the average size, but the last dozen went down with painful slowness. George Grissom, colored, of Muncie, found a $250 diamond in the street and hunted for the owner. It proved to be the property of Mrs. II. C. Mark, w ife of a local theatrical manager. The school board of Columbus has practically accepted the new Central School building, erected by Caldwell & Drake, and completed six weeks ahead of time. The building cost $76,701.20. George Wright, 35 years old, a wellknown farmer west of Kokomo, was instantly killed by being kicked by a horse that he w as hitching to a wagon. The animal's hoof crushed his skull and he fell dead in his tracks. The new M. E. Church at Fisher's Station, recently completed at a cost of $4,000, has been dedicated. The Rev. Williai.i Parr of Kokomo, preached the sermon, and enough money was subsribed to free the church from debt. Music was furnished by a large choir, under direction of Prof. W. E. Fisher, supervisor of tre Peru schools. Mrs. S. E. Young and family of Ander son, celebrated the completion of their res idence, one of the largest and finest in the city, by entertaining all of the head men in the work of the building. The guests included the architect, Iiis bondsmen, lumber dealers, carpenters, plumbers, electri cians, painters, plasterers, cement layers, cistern builders, yard grader and brick cleaners. W. T. Ilaj mond, the 15-year-old of A. J Alexander, a fanner near Wheatland, died recently after several Jays of intense suf fering from a strange nervous disease, which the doctors called chorea. While going to school recently he viewed the body of a man who had committed suicide behind an old car shed, and it is believed tliis sight aggravated the nervous attack from which he had been suffering for some time. Young Alexander had become an inveterate smoker of cigarettes, and it is probable this complicated the trouble. The liev. J. M. Green, pastor of the 31a pie Avenue M. E. Church, Terre Haute, has written a neat and very helpful little book on "The Funeral." lie deals with the customs, commendable and otherwise, of funeral occasions. His questions es pecially concern the undertaker, the min ister, the bereaved family and the friends. and he has shown excellent taste in seaking of tbe proprieties and improprieties of funeral occasions. Mr. Green is a gradu ate of DePauw University, and a success ful minister. Allen Harrison celebrated his ninety third birthday anniversary by reading no less than sixty letters and cards from old friends extending congratulations. He is still more active than many younger men, never failing every Saturday in walking a distance of three miles. He spends his summers in working in his fields, and he attributes his good health to life in the open air and physical culture. He lias not tasted w hisky for sixty-tw o years and he ignores medicine and tobacco. lie was born in Butler County, Ohio, February 24, 1812. Marshal Joshua Hunt of West Lebanon, possesses a small miniature with an inter esting history. During the Civil War he was captured and confined in the Andersonville prison. There he met Wesley King, a boyhood friend. Just before Sherman reached Andersonvflle, Hunt and his friend were exchanged. King succeeded in smuggling his prison clothing to Balti more, where he donned the wretched garb and had his likeness taken. It is an elo quent exposition of the pitiable squalor of the prisoners -ragged, bare-footed and hatless, exposed to the summer's scorching sun and the winter's biting frost. King is now in the Soldiers' Home at Marion, his mind impaired as a result of the severe strain of fourteen months in prison. Mr. Hunt spent only three months in this in ferno, and then came out more dead than alive. J. B. Goodall has been awarded the con tract for building the new Presbyterian church at Peru; consideration $38,000. The conti et calls for the building above the foundations, not including the furniture, plumbing, heating system, gas fitting elec tric w iring and decorating. John Smiley, aged 20, of Muncie, kissed lis j oung bride and infant babe good-bj-e and announced that he was going to end his life. For half an hour his young wife fought bravely to prevent the rash act, but at last she was overpowered, and her husband swallowed the morphia e, dying tw o hours later. The sum of $10,800 was found in the homo of Mrs. Jacob Frank of Cockran, ately deceased.. The money was ia gold and bills and represented the savings of fifty years. CHANCES FOR INVENTORS. . her Are Manx Possibilities Still Before Them. In the utilization of waste products In making- cheap substitutes for expensive materials there is an attractive Seid for the inventor. Rubber, for ex ample, is growing dearer every year. Some success has been had lately from ether plants, but a fortune is waiting for the man who will bring forward a real substitute. "Paper is cheap," you may hear a newspaper editor say to the young reporters who 'crowd too many lines on a page, but the owner of the publication does not think so, when he has to spend a million dollars or more a year for white paper. Wood pulp paper is growing more expensive; the man who makes paper out of some other fiber, at less cost, will not need to worry about his financial future. A company is being formed to make paper from the waste hulls of the cotton seed; nearly every other part of the plant is now utilized. Paving materials are far from perfect Asphalt is very expensive, and there are many objections to it What is wanted is a material that will have

all the permnaency of asphalt, all the silence of the wood pavements of London, and all the holding qualities of the country macadamized road a pavement that will be firm, but soft; that will be smooth, but not slippery; that will last, and yet can De easily removed; and that, above all else, will be clean. To be a cheap pavement it ought to be made from some waste material. A fireproof substitute for wood, made from waste material, will pay its Inventor well. Manufacturers are all searching for new materials, and for new and cheaper processes of metal-working. Reduce, by a dollar a ton, the cost of making steel and you can add enormously to the net earnings of the United States Steel Corporation, which has funds ready to reward the successful inventor. Flexible glass is not impossible. Think what it would be worth to the trades! Mine owners often neglected great mountains of metal because they cannot extract the ore profitably. In the development of power, its transmission, and Its transformation into heat, light and electricity there is an unbounded field of work for the greatest inventive minds. We want cheaper power; we want to catch some of the nine-tenths of the energy we lose In burning coal. We want new fuels. We want more economically operated motors for stationary work, and also for fast locomotion on land and sea. Success. FROM MISERY TO HEALTH. Finally a brother newspaper man, who like myself had served in the war. Induced me to give a faithful trial to Peruna. I did so. In a short time the lassitude left me, my kidneys resumed a healthy condition, and a complete cure was effected. I cannot too strongly recommend Peruna to those suffering with kidney trouble.
