Plymouth, Ind. Septembtr 1, 1904. Gen. Grant's letter or acceptance, in 1863, contained but twenty-five lines. That of IS72 but twenty seven lines. Lincoln's 'first letter of acceptance contained but fourteen lines, and his second but fourteen lines.
It is a fact worthy of note that, counting from tbe year 1852, no presldent has been elected without receiving tbe electoral vote ol Indiana. As goes Ipdiana so goes tbe United States" has been true for more than fifty years. . -
Dun's report on the failures for July, 1904, shows an aggregate of liabilities of a little over $3,000,000 as compared with over 816,000,000 for tbe same period last year. Not so bad for a presidential year' after all. John P. Frenzel has ;ust returned from Germany to" Indianapolis. He was for many years a leading democrat but refused to support Bryan for presfdent. Last week all the democratic papers in the United States announced that Frenzel would support Parker, but Mr. Frenzel sars he has not authorized anybody . to make any fcuch statement.
Two important questions are to come before the state board of charities at its meeting to be held at Terre Haute November 19. An effort will be made to have the organization unite on a bill to be presented to the next legislature making wife desertion a felony. The second reform proposed is a law to prohibit caring for tramps at county jails. It is believed tbe passage of such a law will result in great saving to the various counties.
Aside from Henry Gassaway Davis, the democratic vice presidential candidate, Governor Will Cumoack will probably be tbe oldest campaigner in Indiana this fall. The governor is barely five years tbe junior of Mr. Davis, and as he has been stumping Indiana in every campaign for over a half a century, says be can not think of keeping out of the fray this year.
Tbe republican national, state, county and township tickets are almost perfect this year. Every man on them seems to be the right man in the right place and Marshall county ought to roll up a big republican majority. The political fight in Vermont and Maine is on and will be continued up till the polls are closed and the result is proclaimed. Among the speakers fiom the West is Benjamin F. Shlvely of South Bend, who is helping the democratic brethren In Vermont.
Tom Taggart as chairman of the national democratic committee, finds his power considerably limited by reason of tbe superior influence of the eastern magnates of the party who Insist upon controlling everything. The soft-voiced and smiling-visaged Iloosiej is entirely subject to tbe will of Belmont, Sheehan & Co., of New York.
The eastern grangers are pledging candidate for congress to support a postal check currency and other reforms demanded by farmers as the price of getting their support. Candidates as a general thing, will promn almost anything but tbey have a rare faculty for forgetting their promises after they get warmed m the cosy official seats.
The democratic parle opposed the passage of the Sherman Law, and It has opposed all other anti-trust legis latlon in the last 14 years. From Judge Parker's speech of acceptance It would appear that he is in harmony with his party on tbii question and would deny the power of congress to pass such laws. He would leave sach trusts to be regulated by tbo states which granted charters to them, and he would have left the Nortbern Securities Company tobe dealt with by the state of New Jersev. But tbe republican party and the Sapreme Ourt of the United States, regards this as a 'government of laws, and not of men."
The Indianapolis Sentinel thinks Vermont and Maine will roll up old fashioned republican majorities in September and its editor is hopping mad. He says "It won 'tbe long now until tbe republican editors and orators will be asking the old questions, 'Have ygu heard from Vermont?" ,4Have you heard from Maine?" The bald-headed, toothless and generally decrepit campaign argument" has been imposed upai the country for generations and it will be able to stand up under the affliction once
more.
According to reports tbe czar has Instituted many reforms, (abolished many punishments and proclaimed a general amnesty for all political offenses except murder, since tbe birth of his son two weeks ago. The present Euperor of Russia has shown tbat bis inclinations are kindly. No one could reasonably expect that, such a government as that directed from St. Petersburg would or could make radical changes, but it is a matter for congratulation that there is a gradual and steady progress toward better things.
nearst papers are giving Tom Watson more prominence than they give Parker. It Is very evident that Hearst prefers Watson to Parker and would support him if there was any show of his success. A majority of democrats In the west prefer Watson to the trust candidate of the east.
S. J. nayes, the republican nominee for prosecuting attorney Is one of the best lawyers in the district. He is a man of excellent character and should have the votes of every man in the district who wants a good prosecuting attorney. Marshall county ought to give him a rousing majority
NEW TRADING-STAMP SYSTEM
Bosworth & Shambaugh. the Enterprising Dealers, Have Inaugurated a Trading-Stamp System which is Superior to all Others.
Stamps Redeemable in Their Own Store Redeemable Advantage to the Customer.
Jerry Simpson didn't get that nomination for congress by the New Mex ico democracy. On the contrary, Jerry was badly defeated. George P. Money is the name of the gentleman who beat Jerry for the congressional nomination. Money got 117 votes, while Simpson had to be content with 36. Jerry can justly claim, but not complain, that he was beaten by Money.
This campaign is the fiftieth anniversary of the Republican party and its adherents can proudly point to its record of achievements. No other political organization, at any time in the world's history, can show such a schedule of accomplishments for the advancement of the nation, the enlightenment of the whole human race, as the history of tbe Republican party presents.
. David B. Hill, ex-senator, ex-governor of New York and ex-several other things, announces that he will be an ex-politician after the present campaign is ended. He celebrated his sixty-first birthday Sunday, and he gave to the press a statement of bis intent in this direction. There is a suspicion that be has had a little friction with Parker, as well as with Taggart, but he announces bis intention of controlling the democratic party of New York until the campaign Is ended.
On and after Sept. 3rd, this wellknown house will issue to all cah customers their celebrated Bank and Merchandise trading stamps. This firm adopted their own trading stamp only after thorough investigation of all the tradiDg-stamncomDan-
ies of the countrv and finally decided i
that the only logical basis on vhich a trading-stamp could be Issued was one redeemable in tbeir'own store In their merchandise. All the trading-stamp companies require the holders of books to procure 1,000 stamps, representing $100 worth of purchases before tbe book becomes available for redemption. Messrs. Boswoith & Shambaugh's tradingstamp book will only contain 500 stamps, thus cutting the amount of purchases necessary to fill the book squarely in two. Furthermore, Instead of being limited to a small and insignificant range of premiums of questionable value, the holders of a book with Bosworth & Shambaugh's stamps can redeem the same in any article or articles of mercandlse in the store at regular retail prices to the value of $2.00. It will be seen thar through this plan cash customers really get a merchandise discount equivalent to 4 per cent. Furthermore, the holder of a book has the option of redeeming same for $1.50 In cash. Collectors of stamps have noticed that the quality of premiums offered by stamp companies h is been rapidly deteriorating. and whatever advantages are gained by their collection are largely lost through this fault. With the trading stamp issued by Bosworth & Shambaugh the cus. tomer can use It in any department o! the store. For instance, if the holder of a book desires to purchase an article of higher value she can apply tbe redemption value of the book on that purchase and pay the difference in cash. Busworth & Shambaugh in offering these trading stamps to their customers are confident that it will appeal to them as being a far more desirable stamp in every way than any "company" amp. Their range of merchandise is so large that the holder of a book has a very wide selection of premiums from which to make her choice. The
trading-stamp companies all make enormous proLts on the class of premiums which they give away; They maintain hundreds of stores and spend money freely In all sorts of methods to induce people to collect these stamps. Somebody must pay for these, of course. With the stamp issued by Bosworth & Shambaugh all the value goes to the collector. They simply offer it as an inducement to trade for cash, giving the cash cus tomer a slight preference, to which she is entitled. Collectors of stamps will also appreciate the fact tbat only half the number of stamps need to be saved by this system, and it is safe to say that the premium given for 500 stamps by Bosworth & Shambaugh costs as much as that given for 1,000 stamps issued by a "trading stamp company."

NOTHER new feature added to our store. We have originated a New Trading Stamp System. We have called these stamps Bosworth & Shambaugh Gold Trading Stamps for the reason they are as good as gold. The only Trading Stamp that has a Cash Value. The only stamps that are good in the payment of an account. The only Stamps that are redeemed in Cash or
Merchandise, which every one may know the value. Stamps that are redeemable not for a limited line of over-priced premiums, but for anything you may need in any department of our large store. What are you getting for your stamps? Something you really want, or something you take because you can do no better? Something valued at an honest market price, or something so over-price that months of effort in stamp collecting amount in the end to a disappointment? Not lets talk the matter over briefly and to the point. It is no secret that most stamp concerns have no definite, positive price for tlie stamps they furnish the merchants; the rates vary and the prices are deeply cut, any one can see how this discounts the value of the stamps. Those who issue them must .make good, and there is no other way to do it than by taking it out of the value of the premiums, or in other words
marking their premiums at an exhorbitant value. How different is the standing of our Trading Stamps. There is but one standard of value for the premiums given, and that is the lowest retail'market value on any article in our large store, and if you do not choose to select merchandise for your premium we will redeem all full books in spot cash. Another good feature in our Stamp Books is that they only require 500 stamps. You must collect 1,000 of the other kinds of stamps before your book is filled. In other
words we give better premiums for exactly half the number of stamps. One stamp will be given with each' 10c purchase, and when $50.00 worth of goods are bought ynu are entitled to choose any goods in any department of our store to the amount of $2.00, or we pay you $1.50 cash, just as you desired AH of our coupons that you now hold will be redeemed in any merchandise in our store or credited in the'New Stamp Books. ,.
