Faye Porsenils, The month of June, one of the busiest months for farmers in all the year is a month in which we expect to got but little money on subcrip tion, and we had made up our minds that receipts would be very light for
the past week, and were contemplating an offer to sell the receipts from b ib-. ription for a week to the boys for five dollars, when H. Work, of this city, one of our oldest subscribers whose time had not expired came in and ienewed for auother year, stating that he might not be able to get up stairs again before his subscription expired, but we hope that he may soon bo restored to perfect health and live long .0 enjoy life's rich -.st blessings. After Mr. Work was gone we were aroused by the genial voice of Stephen S. Staley who always leaves a ray of sunshine when he comes into the room. "I am in a hurry," he said, "and as I never like to read anybo ly's paper but my own, here's the money for another year, and as Carey's subscription will expire in July, I'll just renew for him whiie I am here " The Carey alluded to is a Methodist preacher now in Alexandria, in this Stat, and his wife is the daughter of Mr. Staley. The next day we were thinking "well we had a streak of good luck yesterday which seldom comes In the busy season, when a good looking young gentleman stepped in and said, "I want to subscribe for the BepuBUCAM, Philip Sickman, Marmont, Ind.," and "you b'-l" we had that t; une on our books In a hurry. Minutes of the Temperance Union Pie-nic. The temperance societies known as Center, Jordon and The Brick met in the gtove wost of the Hopewell Church in Green township, Marshall county, Ind., Saturday, June Uth, 1M19, for the purpose of spending the day in discussing the subject of temperance, Ou motion, Mr. Win. McClure, of Waluut was appointed president of the meeting. President McClure came forward in the dlschargs of the duty Intursted to him In that pleasant manner which gave zest to the ccaMon. Silas S. Fish was then chosen Secretary and Jamea Davis Treasurer.
Exercises were opened by vocal music, after which prayer was delivered by Rev. Mr. Jones, of Argos. Next on programme was singing by the choir, followed by a speech for the benefit of the society by Mr. Personette, of Max- nkuckee. Rev, McNeely, of Argos, was then called to the stand and with bis brilliant flow of language held the entire
audience spellbound with his forty minutes' speech which was a series of noble thoughts and wise suggestions. The meeting was then adjourned to partake of a bountiful dinner, which the good people of that community spared no pains in preparing. The appearance of rain detained the Argos brass baud until afternoon, when the sound of approachiug music appeared to give new life to all who were piesent. First on programme was music by the choir, followed by prayer by Rev. Mr, Alleman, of Iowa. Next, music by the band, af er which Mr. A.. I. Wiekizer, of Argos, was called to the stand. Mr. Wiekizer had mapped out a noble speech which would have much interested his hearers, when to the regret of all. It was announced that a heavy rain was just upon us, which made it necessary to adjourn. Though sympathizing with the many disappointed speakers wno were preseu', we know they are of untiring energy, and that it will be but one week to wait (June 20 ond 22) that grand temperance meeting on section thirty, '-'t utiles north of Argos, will take place and they will have the benetit of one more week's experience.
