A most interesting experiment, which anybody may try, consists of sprinkling a few atoms of Uranine upon the surface of water in n glass tumbler. Each atom immediately sends down through the water what appears to be a bright green rootlet; and the tumbler soou looks as if it were crowded full of beautiful plants. Tbe rootlets now begin to enlarge, spread and combine, until we have a mass of soft green colored liquid Viewed by transmitted light, tbe color changes to a bright golden or amber hue; while a combination of green and gold will be realized, ac

The engine-boiler in tbe Democrat office bursted last Thursday, and we understand, had to be sent to Chicago for repairs. T- J- Patterson removed about two bushels of ice from his meat shop Monday morning. It was taken from tbe walls and ceiling. There are a number of ears in this vleiaity lhat will need time and warm- weather to restore them to tbeir original color and size. Merchants who advertise now oan be depended en as live, enterprising business men, and It always pays to trade with men of that kind. The horses of this vicinity were generally much pleased with the weather Thursday and Friday. It gave them their first rest for three weeks. The signal service predicts that a cold wave, exceeding In severity that of last week, Is coming, and will probably strike this section of country to-day or to-morrow. Eighteen degrees below zero last Thursday morning, and from twentytwo to twenty-six below Friday, thermometers varying according to locality, is the story the mercury told. Dr. J. Hoover, formerly of Argos, we believe, has left Sextonville, Wisconsin. We do not know where be has gone ; but the Postmaster at Sextonville notifies us that he hat moved away. Crawford, the crockery man, will soon occupy a room underneath the BJcrrBUCAK office. If our heavy presses should break the floor, and they, with all the boys and "Danbury Jim," come down in that room there would be a smashing of crockery ware. Variety is the spice of life, but there was not variety enough in the weather during the last three days of last week to make it spicy. We should recollect, however, that there was a difference of a 130 degrees, or such matter, between the weather of ist ummer and last week.

Tbe citizens of Plymouth should avail themselves of this opportunity of witnessing one of the best dramas ever presented here. A young man named Fisher, residing at Warsaw, and until recently employed on the wood -train of the P., FL W. & C. railroad, was promoted to the position of brakesman on the through-freight a few weeks since, and Monday night was found dead on top of a car when his train reached Hamlet. The supposition is, that in passing over the bridge near Donaldson he was struck by some of the timbers and killed. The Coroner of Starke county held an inquest, but we have not learned the verdict of tbe jury. The remains were brought here Tuesday evening, friends from Warsaw came here yesterday and he was burled in the Catholic cemetery. Last week's Democrat contained
