are not true. The "Imlianian" tells us that Christ and the thief were that day in Paradise; three days afterwards Christ told Mary he had "not yet asceuded,' &c. The "Indianian" has exhausted his criticisms on our remarks, about changing the punctuation, we let these pass after seeing that he has taken the responsibility of subverting the plain sense of words spoken by holy men as the spirit gave them utterance, and after doing so undertakes to excuse himself on the ground that other men have taken the same course. I care not what he may say, neither what he may assume, contrary to pluindeclarations, notwithstanding he may be backed up by Uev. Luther Lee. A man must be hard pressed when he has to resort to a course like he did, of perverting Psalms 14G: 4, and Lccl. J: 5, 6. Now fui Phil. 1: 23. "For 1 am in a strait," &c. In reply to his argument we say, that Paul points the Vhillippians to "the day of Christ.'' as the time of .their reward; and it would be preposterous to suppose he expected to meet with his before them. His ad-
ilress to Timothv is proof of this. Paul uir.s iu um ' j 1 is not discussing his own fote, except so far as Christ and his Gospel were invelvrd. He says all his aniiclions, bonds and 1 imprisoiMiients had furthered the Gospel, ; instead of retarding its progress. And j in reference to this he makes one hold 1 . . and unmistukeiiblc declaration, that i .nr.:t M n;Rei! hi v Infa J W rf I 4 ' J Ir U lit VI ,J- " V J J h.t1if.r In- nf, nr bv death" it mattered not thin icould he the result, Having thus driven the nail, he clinches it by saving, "For me to live is Christ it will redound to ki-t glory, for 1 am set for the defence of the Gospel," -and to ; die, ill lU ll U V, U V " ' . . . i m .i ii rii i o i w r rii w , I r r!. ot to me, Paul, .but to ' ise. hon- could "Christ sikc. If the 'Indianiun' wants to prove anything by 2 Cor. 5: S, he must commence with the chapter and afler he has j;iven his expositions of tlie suLjct we will notice it, for the subject begins vith the chapter. The "IndianianV" next proof is Kev. G; D. Where Jolwi 'saw under the altar the fouh of them thct were slain for tlie word of Go.l." 5cc. Upon this texl I shall not dwell, for it must be obvious to every intelligent reader of the Scriptures, that John gives a symbolical description 0fwh.1t he saw; aud that he speaks ol things which had no real existence when he Saw them; and, therefore, that they were merely images, or symbols, reprt entin other ihings, That Jo!m should see the uoulz of the martyrs under tlie altar, and that thes souls should be represented as "crying with a loud voice," is uli iu perfect harmony with the whole subject. The blood of Abel cried from the ground; au I the blood of Christ is said "to speuk better things than the blood of Abel;" and in perfect harmony with the nature and decorum of tlie ligure, the blood or nouls of the saints, slain for the word of God. is represented as being "under the altar," upon which ue may suppose they were sacrificed. The "Indianian." eays "We will then compare this grain of wheat sown to the resurrection." The ilrst thing to be noticed is that he makes the grain of wheat to represent a man buried let us sve, he burys tu mau iu the ground, but first takes the ;eriii from Lim and has it translated as far from him as possible I need only ask is this the way you use the grain of wheat, or is lhe eniire grain, ho ly an I germ put in the ground tJether, we think it will appear plain !hut he has subverted his own theory, we let it puss without further comment, and let him ponder over his own figure to represent a resurrection. He next charges me with denying thatvtan will have a tnind after the resurrection, toiid drawn out a long nonsensical argument on a supposition of his own, and tries to show that if the man if ill have any mind it will be a new one, &c. As he has taken this trouble, we will look at his theory. 1st, the body dies the mind does not, but continues to live and have enjoyments finally tbe body is resurrected the mind again enters into it. Now the mau ha a new body and the same old rniud inference, half of the man is resurrected and made immortal and cannot sin; the other part is the same mind that has lived in this sinful world, and while here did sin, yet they must go together, how do you like
this? We acain say the mind is an at-
tribute of the man, and without it he is not a complete man that when he is resurrected be will not bo deficient. The 'lii-tinilin" li.i- f?v...l mit -j mu'Ctinn n ml calls it ours.
