I have been gone for three mouths, and assure you, in u,l sincerity, that I am fully sitisiied. lou iurnisueu me a nsi 01 one nuinlred and seventeen owing subscribers, as vou will tecvllect. 1 have called upon one hundred and four of them, and have the honor of paying over to yctir order three dollars and twelve and one-half cents, being the amount to which you arc entitled. I return you the list numbered 1 to 117, and now give you the reply of each. No. 1 Is a minister. lie says in the first place he never got one half of the numbers, (a lie according to the account of the Post-master,) and in the next place, your joker's column was too scurrilous. He can't think of aiding to sustain a pacr that advertises horse races and gan der pullings. besides he knows from the 1 tone ol ycrr editorials that you drink. and paying you would only be the means of your ending your diys in the kennel. He wonders at your impudence in sending him his bill after publishing an account of the great prize fight between Left Handed Smoke and Battering Bell. He wants nothing to do with you never wants to hear from you again. No. 2 Is in jail for debt. He has not seen a half dollar for a year. Says he would pay with the utmost cheerfulness, if he only had the money, but had to borrow a shiit to put on last Sunday. Admires your paper wonderfully, and hopes you will continue sending it to him. lie wishes you to take a bold stand in favor of the abolition of imprisonment for debt, as he thinks it would he a very popular move with gentlemen in his situation. If you send him any mere papers he hopes that, cu will see thütthe postage is paid, as otherwise he will be unable to enjoy your lucubrations. Sends his best respects. No. 3 Is a young doctor. Says your paper is beneath the notice, of a gentleman. "Wouldn't give a for a cart load. Says ycu inserted an article re fecting on the profession. Only wishes lie could catch you here would make yo! smell . Is coin to persuade every bod that takes your paper to stop it. Lursdyour bill, and says you may collect it in the hst wnv von can. No. 1 Is an old Maid. Says you are always taking a lYiug at s;:gle ladies of au uncertain age. Wouldn't pay you if she was rolling in wealth, and you hadn't cash enough to- buy a crust of bread. Sent all the papers.she had back a month ago, and says now that she sent them back she don't owe you anything. Says she is even with you, and intends to keep so until the day of judgment. Asked me not to forget to tell you that you are no gentleman, or you wouldn't undertake to slander a large and respectable class of the female population of the country. No. & Is a gambler. A sporting gentleman. Says he got completely cleaned out last week at the races. Couldn't accommodate his grandmother with half a dime if she was starving. Eike your paper tolerably would like it better if you published more races and would occasionally give account cf a tock light. Liked the description of the
prize fight amazingly it redeemed a inultitnde of your fault3. llopts you won't thiuk hard of him for not paying you now but lias got a prospect of soon having some loose change, as he is after

Is, by all odds the meanest man 1 hdve seen yet. Will never go near him again. o. S Is a politician. Says, although you profess to publish a, neutrul paper, it is not so. Thinks he has seen a . considerable squinting towards the side, to which he is opposed. Meant to have told you a year ago to stop his paper, but forgot it. Tells you to tlo so now, and thinks you are getting oil" very cheaply in not loosing any more by him. Uelieves you to be a rascal, and is too honorable to hue any tiling to do with you, as it might compromise him and injure his prospects. .No U Paid up like a man. The cnly one. The three following are cheap and ea sy modes of preserving eggs for culinary use. Receipt No. 1. Pack thefeggs to be preserved in an upright water-tight t ask, with their small end downward. Take eight quarts of unslaked lime, onehalj pound of common salt, two ounces of j cream tarter; pour the mixture into the cask containing the eggs, and they will keep sound and good for two years. JUceij'C No. 2. Pack the eggs to be preserved in an upright eartheu vessel or tub, wilh their small end downwards. Procure, melt and straiu a quantity of cheap tallow os lard, and pour while warm, (not hot) over the eggs in the jar, until they are completely covered. When all is cold and firm, set the vessel in a cool dry place, until required for use. After the eggs are taken out, the grease need not be wasted, as it will serve Jor making soap, or many other household purposes. TURNIP Kit OUT, Has become an article o( manufacture. The turnips are peeled, chopd up line and put up in the same manner as cabbage. Confidential epicures pronounce it superior to the old fashioned cabbage krout.
