was recently married to a gentleman of fortune, and went to Paris with her husband, where she plunged into the gayeties ofthat splendid city, until her husband became alarmed, and sent for her father. Uut it was loo late. The fath- j ex and the husband returned to NewYork, sadder and wiser men, the former to ponder over the truth that virtue is more to be prized than wealth or fashion; and the latter convinced that a beautiful woman is not a beautiful wife, an. The New York Democracy. The concluding resolve passed at the great meeting at Albany on Friday night in favor of the Senators who resigned rather than permit the passage of the Canal bill, was in these words: Resolved, That out of intended evil sometimes comes good; and that we lind it a source of congratulation that the oaset which a reckless and profligate faction have made upon the constitution in this scheme of debt, has hud the effect of uniting in one body, and unimatiiig with one purpose, the Democracy of 1 lie Slate; anil Mia f U'P rcinwp Mi:if v- u n sihl.. tu ) VIII.. .V II JUIVV I II U I ..V w . w proclaim that the united Democracy of Jew York are ona and invisible. The Argus, which bus bee represented as friendly to the bill, says: "There can be no doubt that, in relation to the canal bill itself, there are scarcely two opin ions among Democrats. That they gen erally concur in opinion hat the bill in with the spirit and intent of the consti tution, and that in its details it bear a strong partizun impress, there can be but rery little doubt." A REMARKABLE WOMAN. Yesterday the widow Wilson, of Shippen street, relict of Capt. Andrew Wilson, was consigned to the grave in Pine street church yard. In an address at her funeral, the llev. Dr. Braiuerd, said she was eighty six years old, anil had worshipped in Pine street church before the war of the Revolution, and ever since; that when the British held possession of Philadelphia, they not only converted Mrs. Wilson's church into a stable, but expelled herself and family fioir. her dwelling, south east corner of George and South streets, to accommodate British officers; that, once sailing with her husband, Mrs. Wilson was captured on the high seas and taken a prisoner to Jamaica, where her force of will and language availed to protect a good part of her property. He might have added that she was in the receipt of two pensions from the General and the State Governments: that she kept up t.i unbroken interest in all political affairs, and could sketch to the life prominent politicians; that her strength of character, was unefTecte l i-y years, that she carried to life's clrse, unchanged by contact witi new generations, the peculiarities formed in the early days of our laud and the moat stormy period of our hislory. She was a character at once so unique and resolute, that she would hare been a treasure to the genius of Walter Scott; and we could not allow her to pass from among us without this tribute to her memory. Philadelphia Gaz. The Germans. The emigration from the German States and from Sweden and Denmark within the last few years has been ver great. Our Westren cities are crowded with them, and in many sections they are found in great numbers in the country engaged in agricultural pursuits. In the main they are a most excellent population. An industrious, sober and law observing people, with habits of economy which in time will ensure for them or their posterity wealth and influence. With our wild notions of extravagance and fondness for display which rivals the gay population of France, we need an infusion of this staid, sober and economical German character. We welcome thein to our shore. Slate Sentinel. Seven tons of wild pigeons were bro't into New York city, on the Kric railroad, from the counties of Steuben, and Alleghany, on the ri7th pf April,

Among the rest were three or four mere boys who have ben sentenced for years, in the morning of their days, to the walls of a prison, for heinous crimes against society. Ileal Estate Appraisement Judge Hoover, one of the Real Estate Appraisers of this county, informs us that he has completed Liberty Township, and on comparing his return with that made five years ago, finds that he has increased the valuation pbout eighty thousand dollars. The Township contains 12 sections of land. We suppose the increase in value will be irt .about this proportion throughout the country. Neictaxtle Conrier, A similar increase will be made in the appraisement all over the State, and much larger ratio in the personal property. The total appraisement of real and personal will show an incrra?e of not less than fifty per cent, making thf entire valuation about two hundred millions of dollars.
