PLEASANT GROVE

Nathan Eldridge moved to his farm near South Lawrence last Wednesday. F. E. Randle is doing a thriving business in general merchandise and corn. Clinton Brown is doing nicely with the Pleasant Ridge school. J. R. Miller the, tile manfacturer, was at the county seat Saturday.

I. N. White has remodeled his barn making quite an improvement. J. W. Mainman has a new barn nearing completion. J. B. BeArmond & Co. are running a sawmill near Dunnville, where they are trying to accomodate their patrons. The Free Methodists contemplate a series of meeting at the Dunniville school house in the near future. The Missionary Baptists hold a meeting at the same house on the fourth Sunday in this month

WALKER TP.

J. F. Spriggs. J. P. is erecting a new barn, Charles and Scott Harrington carpenters. Teachers institute for Walker township was held last Saturday; next one will be held on the third Saturday in January. Whooping cough is reported in some of the schools and mumps in others. Charles Sterrett one of Gifford ten&nts, moved to white County last week, Teachers are preparing to give their schools a weeks holiday. The trustee will start the Snyder school Monday. DE MOTTE.

Justic John Tow stole a march on the people of this place and married Miss Nellie Groot of Keener, He is setting them up to the boys. Ed Gilbert and Miss Nellie Snip were married we are informed a short time ago. Ed such things will leak out. M. M. Tyler has in operation at his residence a gas-stove; call and see it work. The Indiana Pipe Line & Ref. Co’s line walker ’found some leaks in the line near Stoutsburgh they were repaired without much trouble. W. H. Tyler is on the sick list, | mpmps the cause. Mrs. J. E. Kershaw* is very low with quick consnmption. Dr. Jones of Kniman is attending ~ her. • Gravel road is the subject for discussion now. Who will get. the contract? Nice weather and good roads. Farmers are busy shelling and shipping their corn. The box social at Putt’s school house last Friday night was largely attended and all report a good time. Mr. 'and Mrs. C. F. Shroyer of Barkley township were the guests of J. W. Hyatt and family last week. Singing school at Union township was organized Tuesday night, Dec. 15, with John Sage as teacher. The writer of these items wishes youall a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. “Now is your chance girls,” Samuel J. Augspurger has purchased a fine new buggy. George Smith made a business trip to Morocco last week.

MILROY TP.

The farmers of this vicinity all through husking and have gathered the largest crops ever raised in the township. GeoYge Castor and wife, and Charles McWeeney and wife have just returned from a visit with their sister, Mrs. John Towe, of Howard county. Charles Sommers, our supervisor, is still working on ’the roads. Onr roads need lots of work and Charley is just the one to do it, for he is a hustler. Joseph Glosser has rented his farm and is going to move to Remington in the Spring. We regret loosing such a good neighbor, but what will be our loss will be Remington’s gain. There will 6e a Christmas tree at Center school bouse Christmas night and also one at Queen City school house Christmas eve. There was a box social at Banner school house Saturday, Dec. 19, which was a grand success. Some of the farmers of this vicinity have been busy .shelling corn this week. The schools of this township are progressing finely. Sunday school at Center school house every Sunday. Bummer.

Stephen D. Hyatt of Jordan township came near death Tuesday'evening while helping shell corn on the place of Ben : jamin Barger. By the backing of a team he was forced agaiDst the fly wheel of the sheller and had three ribs broken and sustained other serious injuries, from which he may not survive. It is said that his lungs are so ruptured that air escapes through an incision in the back. Dr. Pratt of Goodland is in attendance upon him. Benjamin Barger also had his foot badly crushed in the melee.
