HAPPENINGS OF A WEEK.

Mrs. James Norris is lying very sick at her home in the north.east part of town. Robert Platt, who has been sick with typhoid fever for a couple of w’eeks, is some better. Mrs Minda Schanlaub has been very sick for a week past, Will Schanlaub is home from Morocco on account of his mothers critical illness. Miss Gertrude Parcels of Monticello is visiting her cousin, Miss Bertha Parcels, Mrs. Henry Reprogle of Lancing, Mich, and Mrs. Louis Reprogle of Monticello, spent Sunday with the family of John Shields. It is reported that there are a large number of cases of diphtheria in Monticello. Mrs. Elmer Hawkins is seriously sick at her home north of town. It is thought she will not recover. Cearles Neferkus of Wabash, Ind. was on our streets last Monday. Charles Hurkey has been sick for several days. Frank Osborne of Francisville was in town Monday. Frank Foltz was called to Oxford Sunday because of the illness of his father-in-law. M. L. Spitler, jr. left for Wabash college Monday. The lire company has employed John Greenlielu as nurse lor Robert Platt, who is still seriously sick. J. G. Reynolds was down in Kentucky last week, and brought two line looking two-year-oids home with him. Harry Bott was in Monticello last Friday. Henry Harris is building a beautiful new porch to his residence bn Division street. George Mitchell was visiting friendsin Rensselaer last week. Dod Gleason is here after another car load of norses. Be has snipped more horses fron this place than any man on record.

Rev. Wni. Kruft of Delphi will preach in Christian Church next Lorchs day Morning and evening. Mies Grace Iliff, of Jordan tp., visited Miss Carrie Welsh, at this place last Saturday and Sunday. W. C. Pierce and S. F. Iliff are visiting friends and relatives, near St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. A. .Mills, who went to Indianapolis sick, ten days or two weeks ago, is now in a very critical condition as Dr. English was informed by Dr. Schwartz, who has charge of his case. Miss Bertha Hammond and Zora Adams returned Saturday from a two weeks visit with the family of Joe Mitchell. at Ridgeville who formerly lived near this qlace. A two year old son of Charles Israel died of summer complaint Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs I-'. D. Craig spent last Tuesday in Chicago. Albeit Overton returned home Tuesday after a several days visit with relatives at Lebanon, Kirklin and Frankfo. t. Robert Phillips, Charley Roberts and Charley Hanley attended the state fair at Indianapolis, tiie first of the week. Frank Hardy and mother of R« mil g ton, st jpp d off at Rensselaer last Tuesday, on their way home from Chicago. Geo. Gauthier and family returned to their home at Kentland, after several days visit with W. A. Huff and family. Bejt Goff went to Crown Point last Thursday, where he accepted a position in. a telephone office. In another place in this paper is a call for a non-partisan free silver county convention to be held in Rensselaer, Sept. 24th. ' At a meeting of the stockholders of the Pilot Publishing Company, held atßensselaer, Saturday, Sept. 5, 1896, the following directors were elected for the ensuing year: D. H. Yeoman, Wm. Washburn, James Pierce, D. B. Nowels, Geo. Besse. A. Stimpson. M. L. Adams. A meeting of the directors is called for Saturday, Sept. 19th, at which all are requested to be present as the subject of leasing the paper to F. D. Craig for another period is to be considered. E. L. Hollingsworth and family returned from Michigan last Saturday, where the latter has been spending the summer.

Elbert Harris has moved to Remington. George Barcus and family spent the latter part of last week with relatives at Pine Grove. Miss Mamie Harding returned to her home at Monon last Friday after several weeks visit with W. H. Beam’s family. There are several cases of diphtheria reported at Hebron. Work was again started on the courthouse last Tuesday. The state fair at Indianapolis this week has attracted a number of our people thither. The directors of the Pilot Publishing Company meet next Saturday. The Free Silver County Convention is called to meet in Rensselaer, Sept. 24 th. Joe Reynolds returned last week from a base ball trip. Bicyclists should remember the lamp ordinance. The mail service on the coal road has been suspended, aud mail is now carried by horse from Goodland north and Wheatfield south. The road was so irregular that the government was forced to take the contract from it. The Silver Daily, (published at Pilot office) 25 cts. for camprign. The town was full of melons Saturday, several loads, of very excellent quality being sold. The Republican candidate for governor Hon. A. J. Mount, will speak in Rensselaer on Friday of next week. Rev. R. D. Utter was in attendance at the M. E. eonferance at Terre Haute last week. Mrs. A. E. Brown is visiting in White county this week. It is reported that White and Son will add an electric motor tallyho to their li very equipment next spring. Cerlaimy the fine roads in this part of Indiana would make the project e s b«. A motor carriage could easily take a party of forty to Lafayette and return in a day and make it a most enjoyable trip. Rev. L. L. Carpenter will open a series of revival meetings in Barkley Christian church-on the evening of Oct. 2d. Alfred Hopkins is in attendance at the state fair this Week, going down on his wheel. Ernest Kelloyg, who has been working for Charley Rhoades, accepted a position in Lafayette and left for that place yesterday. Mr. Sol Godman, of Muncie, who has the contract for the steel work on the court house, was In Rensselaer last Wednesday. W. B. Austin has contracted for the ballance of the bonds necessary to complete the court house, amounting to 810, 000 at 4% per cent par basis. Whitsell Lewis bought five lots in Austin and Paxton’s addition last dayW. B. Austin’s new residence on Lucina street is nearing completion. Mrs. Kerr visited her parents in Indianapolis Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Miss Pearl Armstrong of Michigan City is visiting Miss Bertha Hammond. Mrs. Charley Ward and Jessie Adams of Monon are visiting friends in Rensselaer this week. The latest from Rev. Findley is that he is at Aschvill, North Carolina and that ■he was not so well since going there. Reuben Dickinson is about again after a double dose of the chills.
