Ordinance No 41.
An Ordinance granting a franchise to the Jasper County Telephone Company and providing certain restrictions. Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Rensselaer; That the privelege of erecting telephone poles in the streets of the City of Rensselaer and maintaining a telephone exchange in said City is hereby granted to the Jasper County Telephone Company for the period of eight years ffoin August Sec. 2. That said Telephone Company shall set all poles as far practicable, at the outer edge of the sidewalk, between sidewalk and euro, and where said poles are set in alleys they shall be set as near the property line as practicable. All poles to be set in the grouu Ito a depth of not less than four feet and in all cases the worn is to be done to the approval of the City Marahat or Street Cotnissioner. That said Telephone Company shall maintain iaid poles in a good condition at all times and ahall be required to move all such poles at auy time it may become to improve the street or alley and shall place and maintain all wires at s height of not less than twenty feet from the surface grade of all streets aud wuerever practicable place such wires over existing wires already iu streets. That all wires shall be strung aud maintained as taut as is consistent with the proper tension of wires used for this purpose and that in uo case shall sucu wires be strung closer than Four feet from any wires charged with electricty for lightening purposes. Sec. 3. That the priveleges nerein granted are subject to the couseut of the abutting property owners, suen consent to be obtained by said Jarper County Telephone Com pany. Sec, 4. That said Jasper County Telephone Company shall not increase the present pnice charged for the use of their telephones during the continuance of this franchise, to wit; Twelve (812,90) per year for private use and Twenty Four (824,90) pea year lor commercial use. , Sec. 5. This ordmauce shall be in force two weeks from and after its passage and publication in the Ordinances of Rensseiaer, Indiana.
