Rensselaer’ s Chinaman.

Rensselaer's Chinese laundryman was arrested and brought before Judge Wiley last week, arraigned on a charge of assault and battery, and received a sentence of ten days in the county jail and a fine of S2O. The trouble that led to the arrest grew out of the visit to the Celestial’s place of business on Front street of young Herman Churchill. Soon after Churchill left the laundry to see about a horse that he was getting shod at a nearby blacksmith shop, the Chinaman followed and accused Herman of taking a couple of handkerchiefs. Churchill stoutly denied the alleged theft. At this the Chinaman came toward him in a menacing manner with a large knife in his hand and made a thrust at him. Churchill threw up his hand to ward of the intended stab and received a severe cut that made a deep gash across the knuckles. Churchill run and succeeded in getting away from the belligerent Chinaman and swore out a warrant for his arrest. Quick in effect, heals and leaves no scar.
