City vs. Village.
Necessarily, there are two sides to the question of incorporating Rensselaer as a city, else there would be no need ex cept to fulfill the requirement of the law to hold an election to d§«ide the matter While civic pride is a nfost meritorious' element in any town, yet it is well to consider all contingences that may grow out of making this a city. It has been the history of all such ventures to increase taxation, from the fact that it costs more to run a city even of the class Rensselaer will be. than it does a village. Many towns in Indiana that have changed to a city charter, have afterward regretted the step on that account. Low taxation is more of a drawing card to large manufacturing establishments and other business enterprises, than the mere distinction of moving to ’ a town that is conducted under a city charter. The voter and tax payer should think of this if the question be submitted to him for consideration. Citizen.
