THE WEEK AT HOME.
Visit Healys’ new shoe store. F. B. Meyer was in Lafayette last Sunday. Mrs. Charles Sears is at her father’s, Alfred Thompson, for a visit. List your farm property or business with Lee & Co. Jesse Coen was home from Chicago to spend Sunday with his parents. Miss Grace Fox of Brook was visiting her old schoolmates here last week. Charles Harrington of De Motte spent Sunday in Rensselaer. Will Adams was home from the telephone work at Remington to spend Sunday. Theodore Clark has been confined to to his home with la grippe for nearly a week. Lewis Ogle of Clinton county is visiting his sister, Mrs. Harry Alter, north of town. C. C. Starr and daughter Flosse were at Lafayeite Sunday to consult a medical specialist. Judge Healy’s shoe store is the place to find a large variety to select from; the best grades at the lowest prices. Mrs; Pulver of Lowell returned home Sunday after a few days visit with her daughter, Mrs. P. W. Clark. Mrs. C. D. Martin went to Indianapolis yesterday to spend a week with her friend, Mrs. Edward Beach. Miss Myrtle Pulver of Lowell is spending a fortnight with her sister. Mrs. P. W. Clark. Charles Sebring of Medaryville was visiting at Wm. Washburn's and Perry Hamilton’s the first of the week. The new Baptist church at Goodland will be dedicated on Sunday, Feb. 16th. A number of adherents will attend from Rensselaer. J. J. Montgomery superintendent of telephone construction, returned from the work at Remington Saturday night and spent Sunday with his wife here. W. P. McGann in songs and recitations in “Shaun Aroon," has several of the latest and best to present Monday evening, Feb’y 17th. February 10th is the next date on the Rensselaer Lecture Club’s course. Slayton’s colored jubilate singers will be the attraction.
Heavily loaded wagons are being hauled over the gravel roads to their lasting injury. This is a matter that should be prevented. The farmers institute has been in session at the court house yesterday and today, with good attendance and marked interest. Chalmers has had to rent a hall to accomodate the overflow from their public schools. A new six room building is to erected next year. Rensselaer will soon be in a similar condition. Don't get your dates mixed, and above all things, don't miss “Shaun Aroon.” It is a new Irish play—out of the rut of the so called Irish plays—and with the company back of it, can't help but be a success. Brook does not wish to be called a boom town or have her people styled puff-balls, but nevertheless she promises to go into the building business to the extent of 870,000 this year. “No Irish need apply’’ is not applicable in this case. Since “Shaun Aroon” is nothing else but Irish, we confidently expect all our Irish friends to be present, also their friends, and their friend’s friends. Don't invite disappointment by experimenting. Depend upon One Minute Cough Cure and you have immediate relief. It cures croup. The only harmless ' remedy that produces immediate results. A. F. Long, Druggist. A ten or fifteen cent telephone tol rate for the several towns in Jasper, Newton. Benton, White and Pulaski coUnties should be established by the telephone companies. They have met with far greater patronage than expected and should show their appreciation of this fact by being reasonable in their tolls charges.' It would undoubtedly increase their revenues at the same time. Slayton's Jubilee Singers are reputed to be unsurpassed by any colored troupe that travels. Parties who have heard them recently, and some of our local cities have had that pleasure, commend them highly. They will be at the opera house next Monday evening, Feb. 10, under the auspices of the Rensselaer Lecture Club. The republican county convention has been called for March 2. The mota is certainly clever, as it will have the tendency of shutting off the multiplication of candidates. / Remember Slayton’s Jubilee Singers, Monday night. Judge Healy was in Chicago this week, selecting a new line of men’s and ladies’ shoes. His stock is nice and he is selling them at very small profit.
