THE WEEK AT HOME.
Elvin Overton left to-day for a month’s visit with relatives in Boone, Clinton and Howard counties’. Hog cholera preventative from state formula for sale at Meyer’s drug store. Frank Meyer and A. R. Hopkins and John Randle were at Goodland Tuesday and Wednesday, experiencing a medley of mishaps that consumed two days instead of the half of one day. Hollingsworth, wife and son Donald left yesterday afternoon on the south bound train for a week or more at the Cotton States Exposition, Atlanta, and other points. Frances Eiglesbach found a pocket book with a small sum of money enclosed this morning, and the little Miss holds the same subject to the claim of the owner. Frank B. Meyer has the sale of township and town school books and keeps the finest line of school supplies in Rensselaer. Tuesday night was the coldest this fall and quite a mantle of snow lay upon the ground the following morning, when the sun rose on as perfect an autumn day as one could have made to order.
A grand concert under auspices of the Y. P. S. C. E. will be given at Ellis opera house Wednesday evening, Nov., 27Good talent has been engaged and the people may be sure of an excellent entertainment. Lyman Zea has purchased a hack and taken up his stand at the depot platform in the interest of the new Nowels house. He has a very comfortable conveyance and meets all the trains regularly, He solicits a share of the town patronage and will promptly responds to calls from any point in town. Wall Map of Jasper County.
J.R.Faris.of Faris,Beek & Co.. Chicago, is in the city this week investigating the field with a view of publishing a map of this county. It is a work of greatest utility and convenience, and will undoubtedly be liberally encouraged. Their prospectus is as follows: “An experimental canvass will be made for the sale of a Map of Jasper county, and if the patronage will justify, a Farm and School Map will be published, combining essential features which will adapt it to commercial, school and home use. Such a publication will be of great value to patrons and a lasting credit to the county. The map will be on a scale of 1| inches to the mile, and will show the boundaries of the county, its subdivision by townships, dis. tinctly colored; cities, villages and towns, streams, wagon roads, railroads, school houses, farm properties with owners names and acreage where space will admit. Separate plats of towns and villages will be shown colored by divisions. The map will be illustrated on its margin with photo half-tone reproductions of some of the private and other buildings, and will be mounted on cloth with tapo edges, making it not only durable but ornamental.”

Mrs. Youkey of La Fayette, assistant state inspector of the Relief Corps was in town Monday, to inspect the Relief Corps at this place. Mrs. Youkey is an active member of the committe from the Relief Corps now establishing a soldiers and soldier’s widows home at La Fayette. This home is on a new plan never before undertaken. Here the soldier and his aged wife may find a comfortable home to spend their declining years. She is president of the Corps at La Fayette and they are building a cottage at this home. She was well pleased with the Rensselaer Corps and said it was the best that she had visited, she remarked that while watching the work she almost forgot that she was the inspector so interested did she become in the work.
