Sauer Kraut or Kankakee Fires.

Contributed to the People’s Pilot. Foi- several days borne on the north wind, a stout stench has assailed our alfactories. Some say it comes from burning turf on the Kankakee, others think it is from the stored barrels of sauer kraut at De Motte. If it is from the kraut the same smell will assail us when the wind comes up from the south, off of Rensselaer, for those Hollanders from De Motte have hauled enough cabbage down the gravel road to Rensselaer this fall to make two barrels of kraut for every family in that town. Later the wind has changed. It is coming up warm and damp from the south, bearing the same proud smell though not half so stout as the one from the north. The question is settled and Keener has the cake for the production of. Kraut. Rambler North.

There will be a box-social and entertainment given at the Wasson school house Friday evening, Nov. 22, in behalf of the Young People's Reading Circle. Refreshments and a “fishing pond” will be the prominent features of the occasion. Every body is invited. Robert A. Hopkins, Teacher. Guss Grant, Auctioneer.
