People's Pilot, Volume 5, Number 21, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 November 1895 — DEMOTTE. [ARTICLE]
DEMOTTE.
Correspondence of the People’s Pilot. No wonder C. O. Spencer goes around with a 2xlo grin on his face; he is grandpa now. Weather is unsettled at present and indicates winter. E. S. Warren has a new house about finished on his farm south of town in which he expects to have a tenant. DeMotte people are talking of incorporation. Teachers’ institute was held at the school house with full attendance and interesting discussions. Potato digging is now’nearly over, Wall Street seems to be the most thriving street in town at present. Silver Moon, the Indiana vocalist, is seen on our streets no more. Halleck Brothers have their telephone line complete, or nearly so. We have services at the M. E. church every fortnight. Nothing but a box social at Pleasant Valley school house Saturday evening, Nov. 16. Everybody invited. All ladies are requested to bring boxes. Good entertainment expected in the evening. J. M. Spriggs is the teacher. Joseph Smith of Kniman was in town Monday. Dr. Mendenhall, the Indian docter, who comes to Rensselaer every two weeks, as advertised in the Pilot has a goodly number of patients from the north end of the county, and they seem to think he is doing them good. Stormy Petrel.
