A NEW DIOCESE.
Episcopal Home of Deputies Make* a New Division. Minneapolis, Oct. 10. —Another new diocese was authorized by the house of deputies of the Episcopal convention yesterday, that of Northern Michigan. Judge Fairbanks, of Florida, reintroduced his resolution for an amendment to the constitution giving authority for the cession of missionary jurisdictions, but objection was made and it went over. The report of the trustees of the fund for the relief of aged and infirm clergymen showed that the receipts for the three years had been $81,494, and that for fifty-nine clergymen, 166 widows and twenty-four orphans $48,295 had been paid out. Atlanta was selected as the meeting place for the convention in 1898. The house of bishops is not -expected to concur in the selection, as the bishops favor Boston. The House of Deputies by a vote of 162 to 152 decided to substitute the word “primate" for “presiding bishop.” The house, by an increased majority, reaffirmed its position in favor of “bishop coadjutor,” instead of “assistant bishop.” The committee on the division of the Diocese of Tokio, Japan, reported that it had no jurisdiction in the matter, and asked to be discharged
