Obituary.

The following, taken from a La Junta, Colo., paper is read with deep regret by the editor of the Pilot, who knew the deceased well and from an acquaintance of two years can testify to the oppropriateness of this eulogy on the high character of a former citizen of Rensselaer: A GOOD MAN GONE. “Yesterday morning, Sunday, at 1 o'clock, there passed from earth all that was mdrtal of Mr. W. E. Sears, a well known and prominent citizen of La Junta. Consumption was the dread disease that ended a busy and useful life. Deceased was born in Rensselaer. Indiana, and lacked just one day of being forty years of age. For the past eight years he has been d. resident of La Junta, for most of the time prescription clerk in Emerton’s drug store, and only a few brief months ago engaging in business for himself. For the past four years he has been coroner of Otero county, having been elected by the largest majoritv of any candidate on the republican ticket, and which position he filled with signal ability and economy to the taxpayers. He had many friends, being familiarly known and accosted as “Doc,’’ had a heart as large as his will was free, never turning a deaf ear to the cry of the needy, but always contributing of his purse and sympathy to the afflicted and distressed, and his name is blessed by many a poor unfortunate who has been the recipient of his bountiful charity. His life acts stamp him as a good man, and whatever his faults, they were out-' weighed by his kind and goodly deeds. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Lyle preaching the sermon, and the funeral obsequies will be under the charge of the Knights of Pythias and the. Woodmen lodges, both of which orders he was a member. He leaves a sorrowing wife and four little children, who have the sympathy of the community in their deep affliction. Sleep on, old friend, and your memory will ever remain green in the hearts of those who knew you best in life, and loved you for your many noble qualities of both mind and heart. Night has closed, and day has opened for our friend. Doc W. E. Sears. ”
