TURNED OVER TO THE STATE.
Lincoln Monument Is Now the Property of Illinois. Springfield, 111., July 10.—At a meeting held in the chamber of the House at the State House last night the President and members of the board of the Lincoln Monument Association formally transferred the Lincoln monument and property, with the deeds thereto, to the care and custody of the State. On the platform were Governor Altg.eld, ex-Governor Oglesby, President of the association; State Treasurer Henry Wulff and J. A. Connolly. A large number of spectators filled the seats and galleries, among them many members of the House and Senate. Mr. Cochran, who presided, in a short address explained the object of the meeting and reviewed the history of the legislation in regard to the transfer. He then introduced ex-Governor Oglesby, who ifaade the presentation speech. Governor Altgeid, in making response on behalf of the State, expressed his sense of the responsibility intrusted to him and the other State officers. He paid a tribute to ex-Governor Oglesby. J. A. Connolly delivered a short address, and Speaker Cochfan followed in a short speech.
