Several of our young people left on the 11:30 ,train Sunday nigh,, for Frankfort, to attend Barnum's show. The Free Will Baptist had baptismal services Sunday afternoon at the usual place, near the coal oil well. George Colvin of Brookton returned to Rensselaer last Sunday. He says business is quite dull at Brookton. James Duncan and wife drove over from Wolcott Sunday and spent the day with their aunt, Mrs. Sarah Keifer. The trial of Wm. Deniger the alleged burglar of the railroad depot took place Thursday and resulted in an acquittal. Mrs. Tilden and daughter of Greencastle visited the former’s brother this week going on to lowa to visit other relatives. Miss Dasie Willis and her brother Jamie left for Verona, 111., last Thursday to spend a couple of months with relatives. Consult Judson H. Perkins about binding twine. T. P. Clark expects to occupy his new and handsome residence in the north-west part of next week. Mr. Clark has one among the best houses in town. A number of young ladies and gentlemen repaired to a grove south-west of town on Sunday afternoon to enjoy themselves and have a picnic supper. Miss Edith Marshall daugh; ter of Ralph Marshall, Esq., who has been teaching in the public schools of Joliette, 111., is home to spend her summer vacation, Mrs. Nina Hammond of Lafayette was visiting friends in our town last week. She returned home Sunday evening, taking her niece, Virgie Austin, with her.

Mrs. Anna Bruce and son Emmet who have been visiting friends and relatives in Rensselaer and vicinity for the past six weeks returned to their home in Edinburg last week. The sufferings of Mrs. Nagle, who has been an invalid for years, but confined to her bed for over a year, are such as to excite the deepest sympathy among her neighbors and friends. Miss Jackson was married Thursday evening at her home near Lebanon, Ind., to Allen Hoover. The newley wedded pair arrived here Friday afternoon and are now with Mr. Hoover’s parents south of town. Quite a large delegation from the Endeavor Society of the Christian church attended the convention at Goodland this week. It bespeaks well for the coming man and woman of our country to see the active work done in the Christian Eedeavor Societies. The time has come when a young man need not make an excuse for being a Christian. Let the good work continue.
