The croquet syndicate has pul up some nice benches in the Court House square for the ac commodation of those who are weary and wish to rest. It is the most pleasant place in town during the heat of the day. Mrs. Lil'ie Spencer returned to her home in Hammond last Saturduy,’ after a six week’s stay with her sister, Mrs. Hale Warner. Mrs. Spencer formerly lived in Rensselaer and is desirous of again making it her home.

Miss White, who has been with Mrs. Imes. as trimmer for the spring and summer season, left last Wednesday for Kentland, where she will visit with friends until Saturday, then she will go to her home at Anderson, where she has a permanent position. Grandma Bedford, who has beep an invalid for so many weary months, was able to come to town last week and visit her many relatives and old, time friends. She selected with her own hands a beautiful boquet of Prairie Queen roses for the Pilot folks, a kindness which is highly prized. It is Eoped her invalid days are gone and that many happy years remain to fill the evening of a well spent life. A. Flynn accompanied her as far as the city of Monon. Mrs. Jackson M. D. of Hammond was in Rensselaer last week, and addressed the order of Rathbone Sisters and other ladies in the K. P. hall on the subject of “The Daughters of Liberty,” at the close of lodge Wednesday evening. Now that the Pilot is comfortably settled in its new first floor quarters on the west side of couri house square, its friends are invited to call and see the machinery and inspect the most complete printing plant in this or adjoining counties. A very successful tournament was given at Hobart last Friday by the gun club of that place. The best average was made by M. J. Eich of Chicago, (136 out of a possible 143.) and the second best was scored by J. W. King of Rensselaer, (135 out of 143.)
