Mrs. Walls and Dora returned to their home at Springfield Tuesday. Miss Nellie Coen of Denver, Col., is visiting her brother. C, W. Coen. All kinds of farmer’s supplies. Get prices. Mrs. Albert Coen and son of Chicago has been visiting relatives here the past week. S. P. Leatherman and family of Wolcott visited relatives in town Saturday and Sunday. High and cheaper grade bicycles for sale by W, E. Overton at Randle's Implement store. Mr. Taylor of Lafayette was visiting his daughter, Mrs. T. J. McCoy, the first of this week. The Ladies Aid Society of the Christian church met with Mrs. N. Randle Wednesday afternoon. W. R. Nowels is rejoicing over his first grandson, born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Witham, near Monticello. In quantity, quality and prices, Frank B. Meyer’s display of wall paper, was never before equalled. Call and see. Geo. W. Clinger, tenant on the Madison Makeever farm, lost a part of a finger last Monday morning while working with the wind pump during a calm. A committee of the Christian church is taking up a subscription to build an addition to the house of worship. It is needed for a Sunday school class and robing room.
Mesdames Ora Yeoman, Robt. Randle, C. D. Martin and Miss Eliza Teuter went to Indianapolis Monday to represent the Rathbone Sisters of Rensselaer at Grand Lodge. If reports are true one of our popular school teachers is to be married in the near future. A new house south of town is being built that may serve as a cage for the bird. The next regular visit of Dr. Kuderling, the dentist who extracts your teeth free and without pain, will be June 11th and 12th, Tuesday and Wednesday, at McKeever house. Misses Elsie and Mattie Little of Chicago have been visiting their Aunts, Mrs. Dr. Washburn and Mrs. George W. Clinger, this week. They are crayon artists and make good wages. Austin, Hollingsworth & Co., are now the proprietors of the only complete set of Abstract Books in Jasper County, and are prepared to furnish Abstracts of Title on short notice and on reasonable terms.
Ruth, infant daughter of Frank G. and Ellen Hinkle, departed this life June 4, 1895, aged 2 month and 13 days. Funeral services were held at the F. W. B. church, Rev. B. F. Ferguson officiating, Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mrs. Bruce Moffitt, near Fair Oaks, broke one of her legs below the knee Wednesday afternoon of last week. She is a very heavy woman and the accident was caused by a fainting spell which caused her to fall to the floor.
Mrs. C. E. Hershman. who opened a millinery department in her husband’s store near the depot a few weeks ago, has had phenomenal success, having sold not less than 15 trimmed hats on any Saturday since opening. She buys all her hats trimmed and they are the latest modes of fashion. Her prices probably had much to do with the phenomenal sales made.
Chailie 3c yd. Chicago Bargain Store. Miss Blanche Prichard vistied friends in DeMotte last week. Oren Parker closed his school in DeMotte last Wednesday. At present he is clerking for C. D. Nowels. Mrs. Christine Lundberg of Chesterton, has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Weaver since last Wednesday. J. C. Porter of the firm of Porter & Son left for Indiana Mineral Springs yesterday, hoping ts get relief from a bad kidney trouble. It takes a level head, good judgement and much practice to make a good croquet player. It is really one of the most scien tific games ever invented. Our retired farmers show good sense in choosing to play that game.
