The power of money has been increased at the same ratio as the volume of money has been reduced. The creditor classes in getting the United States in the 70’s to destroy greenbacks knew this and accomplished just what they wanted to and what benefited them. The same intention induced them to destroy silver as primary money and stop its coinage. The great mass of people who are in debt did not know that their labor was made worthless until their property shrunk to less than the face of the mortgage, and when they found that they could not raise enough to pay even the taxes and interest they were told 4t was all on account of the tariff.
