The flattering aspect of the sky on last Su .day morning filled the veius of St. Joseph’s students with a most enthusiastic blood. All were anticipating the game of ball and quietly pondering over its issue. But when the time had arrived when the game was to start, disappointment dispelled all joy for a* heavy cloud veiled the sky and soon emitted its contents; Thus the game was obliged to bo postponed until Monday *afternoon.' At 2 p. m. a large crowd of spectators had stationed themselves on the grounds and were anxiously awaiting the initiative of the season. Soon the players appeared all nicely equipped with their base bail attires. At about a quarter past two the game took its start. The Stars and Cresents were the first to wield the bat whilst the Eagle Nine coolly took its respective position in the field; coolness was its predominant feature throughout the game, and the sequel shows its winning result. The game's record is as follows: Stars and Cresents :. 12 Eagle Nine 13 Worthy of special mention are the following persons: Rudolph Stolz a fly catch, though turning several summer-saults, manf.ully held to the ball, presenting it to the umpire’s view. Bartholomeu Besinger a three-base-hit and home run. Alexander Cook and Albinus Missler greatly elicited the admiration of the spectators as a well practiced battery. Joe Pfeifer and F. Schloer as the battery of the Stars and Cresents contributed, greatly to the interest of the game. MILITARY DAY. Preparations are being made that will give Military Day more than an ordinary signification and render ; t “the” event of the year. It is desired to eclipse the celebration of last year which unhappily, the weather reduced to an indoor affair, although arrangements were completed to make it of special importance. The officers of the Military organization convened, and .after carefully weighing the various circumstances bearing upon the selection of the day, decided that May Bth would be the most appropriate and, at the same time, best suited to the leisure of those receiving invitations. The necessary labor was d isposed of and placed in charge of committees. The Adjutant and the Lieuten ants of Co. A. will constitute the reception committee; while the decorating and general arrangements were given to the supervision of the Aide-de-camp and Captain of Co. A. who have been requested to choose assistants from the ranks of the S. L. G. The Adjutant will issue invitations to former members. . Rev. Wiechmann of Gas City, Ind., and the Hon. W. I. Mooney have been invited to give the orations. In the evening the drama “Garcia Morena,” the scene of which is laid in Ecuador, will be presented. The plot turns upon the assassination of Garcia Morena as president of the Ecuadorian republic. It partakes greatly of a military nature and will be in keeping with the spirit of the day.
