week and the putting on of the gravel (or sand) on Monday last. The gravel that is being used on this road is secured from Mrs. Kannal's farm, commonly known as the Kannal sand bank, and has been extensively used heretofore as plastering sand. The same was used in the construction of the college building for brick and plastering mortar. The writer has visited the sand bank and docs not say but what there is some material that is tit for road purposes, but he will say that there is no practical way of getting at it. You will iind upon examination, the gravel in veins from 3 to 5 inches thick, and veins of sand from 8 to 12 inches. We voted for a gravel road and want to see one built, but if the people of Marion township don’t look to their interests they will get a sand pike that will be a public nuisance. It. is a matter of interest to every tax payer, from the fact mat Marion township must maintain it after it is built and tax payers will be called upon every year for repairs. So let one and all be on the alert for his interest and see that the road is made according to the required specification as voted for. la this we believe the commissioners have over stepped the line now. We undetstand they have cut the specifications on the slough grade from 32 to 25 feet, at the base. During the Wuk. i-usha ditch season, we were ta’d that no power on earth or in heaven could change the i .‘■pecitiealiuHS an eighth of an inch. Such moves as these derange our minds and we wonder '■! the constitution has been ' ch. nged. Tax Payer. i See the “Model’s” noby line. 1 of neckwear.
Paul Thompson Honan.
Death does not stop to select its Howers, but plucks them wherever it lays its icy grasp. Paul Thompson Honan, the only child of E. P. and Madge Honan, after a short illness died on last Friday morning at 4:30 o'clock, aged nine years and tweu ty- one day s. The circumstances connected with his death are very sad, indeed. About a week before his death, while playing with some of his boy friends, he was accidentally struck on the ankle by a bullet from a sling-shot in the hands of one of bis associates. Little notice was taken of this at first, but later developments showed indications of blood poisoning. He continued to grow worse until finally relieved by death on Friday morning, at the hour mentioned above.
Paul was an unusually bright boy and was known to almost everybody in this vicinity. His friends were many and great was their sorrow when tlrny learned of little Paul’s death. The funeral occuri, odot the M. 11. church last. Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Dr. Utler. After the service, the remains were conveyed to Weston cemetery and laid to rest.

List of Patents.
Granted to Indiana inventors this week. Reported by C. A. Snoty & Co., solicitors of American and foreign patents, opposite U. S. Patent Office, Washington, D. C. J. Butler, Marion, metallurgic furnace: J. B. Gorrell, LaOtto, steam-actuated valve. H. M. Hodson, Spiceland, plant-setter; W. Jackson, Plymouth, obstetrical apron; W. J. Slack, LaGrange, gate; D. H. Talbert,’ Knightstown, fence; L. M. Wain v,right, Indianapolis, bicycleframe, A. W. Hahn, Terre Haute, beer-cooler. Common salt is one of the most valuable remedial agents the world contains. Used as a tooth powder alone or with a little prepared chalk, it whitens the teeth and makes the gums hard and rosy; it is a good gargle for sore throat, and if taken in time, will benefit if not cure the diphtheria. It will stop bleeding of the mouth, and in warm water is a good emetic and a remedy against several poisons. There is nothing better for sore feet or hands than salt and water, and for ordinary sore eyes, though a painful application, will often effect a complete cure.
An editor in central Indiana recently announced that in next issue of his paper he would begin the publication of a serial story entitled “The Prettiet Girl in Town.” Over 100 girls have sent letters warning him not to use their names. .
DeWitt’s Sarsaparilla is prepared foi’ cleansing the blood from impurities and disease. It does this and more. It builds up and strengthens constitutions impaired by disease. It recommends itself. A. F. Long & Co., Druggists

Another interesting feature has been added to B. F. Fendig’s show window, in a complete set of World's Fair admission tickets. They are the property of Louie Wilcox, of Surrey, and he prizes them very highly. They are certainly valuable souvenirs of the world’s greatest show. Series of portraits of Cardinal Gibbons, Lord Rosebery and Richard Harding Davis will appear in the department of “Human Documents” in the June number of McClure’s Magazine. Every business house in Rensselaer should be closed next Wednesday afternoon during the Memorial services, as a respect for our honored dead, for whom the.day is observed.
The inclemant weather last Wednesday spoiled the field day exercises at St. Joseph College. A grand programme had been arranged, but the rain spoiled most of it. One of Rudyard Kipling’s greatest stories, amply illustrated, will appear in the June number of McClure’s Magazine. There will also be a story by Octave Thanet.
