Admiral Irwin Retires.

Washington, April 18.—Rear Admiral John Irwin was placed on the retired list Sunday by the operation of law on reaching the age of 62 years. Commodore Skerrett, commanding the Asiatic squadron, becomes a rear admiral, succeeding Admiral Irwin in tbat rank. Commodore Joseph Fyffe, now commandant of the Boston navy yard, entered the navy on the same day with Admiral Irwin, and is now at the head of the list of commodores.
