A. G. CAŢELL DEAD.

An Ex-United States Senator and Member of the First Civil Service Commission. Camden, N. J., April 11.—Ex-United States Senator A. J. Cattell, of Merchantsville, died at Dr. Livingston’s retreat at Jamestown, N. Y., where he had been for some time a patient. Mr. Cattell was in his 79th year. He was elected United States senator from New Jersey as a republican in 1866 and declined a reelection. He was appointed a member of the first civil service commission by President Grant and was financial agent of the government in London during 1873 and 1874.
