AUSTIN & COMPANY.
The name of Messrs. Austin & Company stands out prominently in a review of the legal, financial real-estate, aud brokerage business of the community. The extensive business this firm transacts speaks volumes for their energy and ability. The establishing of this firm dates back about nine years. They transact business in a business like way. promptness and uprightness in ail their dealings. If you wish to make a large or srniil loan on any time they are the men to call on. They have considerable real estate on their lists, and if you wish to buy, sell or exchange, they are the p>ople to call on. Notes are discounted, collections made, and a general brokerage busi- « s< done. This firm are attorneys for the Monon railway company, for Rensselaer electric light company, also for the Rensselaer Building and Loan Association.

This enterprising firm has been in business about two years, during which time it lias built up an extensive trade. This, grocery establishment has a large patronage, especially with the farmers. They pay the iiig ’u price for produce, as butler and eggs, and their store is constantly stocked with a choice, fresh line of family groceries. provisions, fruits, etc. In addition this firm does an extensive business in farm machinery. They handle the best makes of all kinds of agricultural implements and repairs. They are reliable, upright business men, i well and favorably known to the ! people.
11. V. WEAVER. We wish to call the special attention of the public in our review of the town to the framing and. general furniture repairing business carried on by 11. V. W eaver. This gentleman is a competent and experienced upholsterer, and any work entrusted to him is done in the best manner. He has on hand a fine stock of mouldings, and frames are made to order, neatly and at the lowest prices. Give him a call. He has rooms over Eiglesbach’s meat market.
N. S. BATES. N. S. Dates, our popular and enterprising dealer in poultry, and eggs. This gentleman is widely and favorably known among our farmers, especially. A prominent feature of his business is that it has made and opened up in Rensselaer a market for poultry, which other towns in the country do not enjoy. Mr. Bates commenced business about two years ago. He has been unusually successful. The amount of poultry which he yearly handles buying from the farmers and shipping, is very large. He pay's the highest cash price, and has the best facilities for handling. Mr. Bates is a well known, reliable, upright business man.
COLLINS & RANDLE.
Messrs. Collins red Randle, extensive dealers in agricultural implements, wheeled vehicles, etc. Ware rooms on Van Rensselaer street. This firm, composed of Messrs. Alfred Collins and Robert Randle, well known business men. formed this present partnership a few months ago. The business was established by Mr. Collins s?me two years ago. Situated as Rensselaer is. in the heart of a rich agricultural county, a business devoted to supplying the farmers with their requirements in this line is one of great importance. The firm do an extensive business, which reaches over this and adjoin!;:: muties. They are in the very oest position to meet all wants in their line and can offer their customers every advantage. They deal with the leading manufacturers and handle a full and complete . line of all kinds of farm . machinery, repairs, wagons, buggies, carriages, etc. The business is under the able management of Vance Collins and Robert Randle. \V. K. .VOWELS. W. R. Newels, dealer in grain, and proprietor of the first class roller Hour mill located at the depot, is among the leading business men of the county. This gentleman maintains a steady grain market- in Rensselaer the whole year round. He pays the highest cash price for wheat, and owns and operates a roller Hour mill and elevator. Mr. Nowels engaged in the milling business about a year ago, erecting his fine, large mill last summer. This mill is equipped with a complete line of machinery of the improved full roller process, and is noted for the superior quality of Hour turned out. which finds a ready sale. Special attention is given to custom work, farmers coming here for iniies around to have their milling done. Constantly on hand for sale or exchange are the best brands of family Hour, feed, meal, graham, etc. .
T. W. HAUS. We come next in our review to our popular first class restaurant and dining parlors. Here the enterprising and courteous proprietor. Mr. Haus, has been catering to the wants of the hungry public in a manner which has won for him a most enviable reputation. This establishment* is noted for the excellent meals and lunches served. Ice cream and every delicacy in season is dispensed. The cooking in a superior manner and the meals are par-excellence. Always on hand is a choice stock of confectionary, fruits, etc. Mr. Haus has an appreciative patronage.
J. A. SHARP. Our town can justly boast of having one of the best equipped and best conducted small photographic studios in this section of the state. Mr. Sharp is a photographer of more than ordinary ability: he enjoys the advantages of 23 years practical experience, and. judging from his work, lie is keeping pace with the times. Ho showed us photos taken after night, with magnesium light, also instantaneous pictures, horses running, birds Hying, etc. This class of work we know to take great skill and I careful practice to be made a success. This studio is noted for the superior class of work of all kinds from a cabinet to the ! most elegant life sized portrait, j A specialty is made of enlarging ■in crayon, postil, water color, etc. This branch of work, Mrs. I Sharp has charge of and judging by her work’, she certainly knows what it takes to make a tine portrait. The studio is equipped with the latest and best instruments and other facilities for doing first class work.
MRS. IMES. It will be of interest and profit to our lady readers to note the preparations made for the spring trade by the lady above named. at
We can congratulate Mrs. Imes on her successful purchases. She is displaying a collection of stylish and fashionable millinery which is the pick of the market, and which to be appreciated must be seen. Mrs. Imes is a first class milliner and her taste and judgment is much appreciated by her lady patrons. She is ably assisted by Miss Hoffman, an artistic trimmer. None of our lady readers should fail to inspect this stock. Spring opening will take place second week of April.
A. LEOPOLD.
Inseparably connected with the prosperity of merchantile interests of our town is the establishment of A. Leopold, general merchant, and one of the most substantial business men of the county. Mr. Leopold's commencement in business dates back over a quarter of a century, when Rensselaer was not nearly so large and important as it is at present. His establishment has always done a large share of the trade of the town, and county, and has a most phenominally successful record. Of high commercial standing. Mr. Leopold buys to advantage, from the best markets, and carries a large and well selected stock of dry goods, clothing, boots and shoes, hats and caps, furnishings, etc. His long and uniform course of liberal and impartial dealing has won the confidence of the people. Mr. Leopold is largely interested in town property and anyone contemplating buying will do well to call on him and learn his liberal terms.
GEO. GOFF. One of the most interesting articles in our review will be a reference to this excellent restaurant, fruit, confectionary and cigar store. Mr. Goff’s success has been well deserved, for he has conducted his business in a manner which has won for it the appreciation and popularity of the people. Everything here is first class and nothing neglected that would make it so. It is headquarters for foreign and domestic fruits, the finest confectionary, the best brands of cigars, tobaccos, etc. The excellence of the meals is acknowledged by all. Soft drinks are dispensed, ice cream, etc., in season. Mr. Golf is a clever and courteous business man, highly esteemed by everybody. B. F. FENDIG. 13. F. Fendig, our popular druggist, stationer, dealer in •wall paper, etc. This store has an appearance of neatness and attractiveness which at once shows unusual care and attention. Mr. Fendig has ‘been established here about three years, he is a most competent chemist and druggist. The store is equipped with a full line of pure drugs, druggists’ sundries, the leading patent medicines, books, stationery and a stock of wall paper which is weil worth inspecting. The hard times have made a lowering of prices in this line.
MRS. CRIPPS. We would call the special attention of our lady readers to the excellent dress-making business conducted by Mrs. Cripps, who is now conveniently located in Porter & Wishard’s store. She is prepared to do the most fashionable dress making, and no lady of Rensselaer need go away from town for work in this line. Mrs. Cripps is an experinced dress-maker and is well posted in all the latest styles and systems. Any work intrusted to her is done in the very best manner. She has on hand a beautifully made line of girls’, children’s and ladies’ suits. FEN DIG'S FAIR. One of our most enterprising and popular young business men is Sam Fendig, who recently succeded his father to one of the oldest established dry goods houses of Rensselaer. This business has always had a large

It is well worth while to visit this store and inspect a large and excellent spring stock, embracing dry goods, clothing, boots and shoes,, hats, and caps, furnishing goods, etc. The ordered clothing department is a prominent feature of the business. This store lias always been noted for giving substantial values. Buying and selling for cash is the secret of his extremely low prices. J. J. EIGLESBACH. We can say in our review that Rensselaer possesses the advantages of a meat market which is a credit to the town. The proprietor of this establishment is Mr. J. J. Eiglesbach. a gentle man widely and favorably knowr.. For upward of twenty years M: Eiglesbach has been doing business herere, and he has been rewarded by an extensive patronage. The most envious rival could not begrudge Mr. Eiglesbach his large patronage, for it has been obtained by the most liberal and upright dealing. He knows how to conduct a first class market, and the public find here the choicest and best meats of all kinds in season.
