DROPPED DEAD.
Sudden Demise of AIaJ. liickham, a WellKnown Editor. Dayton, 0., March 29. —Maj. W. D. Bickham, the veteran editor of the Dayton Journal, dropped dead at home in this city at 3:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon after a brief relapse from a severe sickness. He was stricken with apoplexy while walking upstairs. [Maj. Bickham was torn in Cincinnati March 30, 1827, and began his work in a newspaper office in that city, and served on the staff of Gen. Rosecrnns with the rank of captain during a part of the war. Later he was a correspondent with the Army of the Potomac, and was promoted to major for services at the battle of Stone River. In 1803 he assumed charge of the Dayton Journal, a republican paper, and has led an active journalistic life, achieving a national reputation as an editorial writer.J
