The Day in Different Lands.
In different times and in different countries there have been at least four separate systems of regulating the civil day. The ancient Babylonians reckoned from sunrise to sunrise, and a great division of the Persians even tc this day reckon the day as beginning at noon. The Romans finished one day and commenced another at midnight and it was from them that we have inherited our time-reckoning custom. The Athenians and the Jews (just prior to the crucifixion, at least), finished the day with sunset. The scientists have their “sidereal” and “solar’ modes of keeping track of the flight o time, besides a variety of other systems.
