People's Pilot, Volume 3, Number 25, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 8 December 1893 — Farmer’s [?]stitute. [ARTICLE]
Farmer’s [?]stitute.
The Jasper County Farmer's Institute will be held in Rensselaer, on Jan. 25 and 26, 1894, at some suitable room hereafter selected for that purpose. The State legislature made an allowance for forty dollars to this county for the purpose of defraying the expenses of Farmer's Institute. This is done in the interest of the farmers, the idea being that a place of this kind to meet and exchange views upon the different method of plowing, planting and harvesting of thedifferent kinds of crops, and 'he different kinds of stock handled on the farm and methods of feeding the same, with he results in each case obtained would beyond a doubt, bo beneficial to many farmers, and that information could »be gained in this way without expense to the farmer, that otherwise he could not avail limself of. as very few farmers take farm Journals. Instruction in the matter of how to get the nest results out, of our land and labor expended t heron is certain ly to be desired by every farmer. The legislature very properly view’s the matter in the light, that agriculture is the greai source from which the State of Indiana is enabled to
take, and maintain her place a> one of the great States of the union, financially and intellectuually. Therefore, shall we as citizens of one of the best countries in the State neglect the op portunity to avail ourselves oi the benefit derived through this great source of information secured to us by the legislature? Verily I say not. but let every farmer from this day shape his affairs so as to be at the county seat on these two days, to instruct and receive instruction on • his question of best methods of farming and stock raising, upon which their properity depends. A program has been made out of subjects and speakers experienced in the best methods of farming will be here from different parts of the State to lead in giving their views, followed by local speakers. We trust that all will feel it a privilege as well as a duty to attend and take part, whether your names are on the program or not, It is impossible to put you all on, but we want you to come and we believe you want to come. Do not let it be a failure. C. D. NowELS.Sec.
