HOME RULE MUST WAIT.
Mr. Gladstone’s Programme for the Next Session. , London, Oct 19.—Rt Hon. Henry Asquith, secretary of state for home affairs, made an important announcement Tuesday night at Glasgow. Mr. Asquith rectified the general impression formed after the delivery of Mr. Gladstone’s speech at Edinburgh recently, that the home rule question would be revived during the coming session of parliament The home secretary, continuing, said that though home rule would always be kept in view by the government, the next session of the house of commons would be devoted to a realization of the Newcastle programme. This really means that the fears of the friends of home rule have been realized and that the great Irish question will he shelved for some time to come.
