within a few dollars, is worth four of Jasper, her county tax is not quite double ours. Fulton’s taxables are over $3,000,000 more than Jasper, and she pays over $10,000 less conty tax. Going to other parts of the state we find things about the same. Dearborn county pays only $3,104 more county tax than we pay and her taxable property exceeds ours $3,884,685 Jasper pays $47 more county tax than Lagrange and is worth $2,750,690 less money. Blackford is worth within $1,413,720 of Jasper and pays $11,089 less county tax. Jennings and Jasper are about equal in taxable property, Jennings only a little over $50,000 ahead. Last year Jasper paid in county tax $30,632 and Jennings paid $16,005. Noble is worth over eight million dollars more than Jasper and pays $62 less county tax. Vermillion exceeds Jasper in taxables over $300,000, but Jasper beats her on county tax four thousand dollars and more. Outside of our neighboring counties we have tried to compare mostly with counties having something near the same amount of property, hence have not compared with the rich counties of the state. The same showing will be found if we take them. The figures we have used are taken from the report of the auditor of state for the year 1891. They include the county taxes for 1891 and the delinquent taxes for the previous year.
