The silent, but eflective operation upon the public mind, cf the misconduct of Mr. Calhoun as President of the Senate, is becoming daily more manifest. It is not among the class cf active politicians that we are to loolrso much for this eCect, as among the quiet, orderly portions of the community, who, provided the government be purely and justly administered, and the dignity and harmony cf its respective departments be maintained, do not trouble themselves much to inquire who are the persons administering it. It is this very class which now begin to be excited by the gross abominations that Mr. Calhoun has permitted in the Senate, a body heretofore so peculiarly invested with the respect and attachment of the country. Many, very many, cf the most respectable and influential individuals of this city, who have been accustomed to loot: to Mr. C. as to a man destined at some future day to adorn the annals of car history, have recently been heard to declare, that they were greatly disappointed and greatly C"cvc at his course.
