MANUFACTURES. -Hy reference to our a-.tf rn papers we perceive that the b-islature of Massachusetts lias incorporated a new town in that state, by the name of LOWELL, containing about 4 square mile, with a population of 2,500 souls. This town is the scat of a ereat number

of factories, whose erection and surccssfulj operation have given the above population to a place that a few years since was al-j most uninhabited. The principal facto-1

ries are those of the Mvrimac Manufacturing Company, and Hamilton Manufacturing Company. The former has a capital of ,s;l, 200,000, use annually 450,000 lbs. of cotton, making two millions yards of cloth, midlives employment to 9C7 'persons 2D9 males and CCS females. The latter has a capital of $000,000; some of their buildings are erected, and others .are in a state of forwardness. It is stated that the Merimac Canal leads to the new town
