I Bv the following article, copied from 'the Brookville Inquirer, it would seem that the subjected" internal improvement : is reviving in this state. ! Ca.vallixg! Those citizens of this 1 county favorable to cutting a canal from j this place to Law renceburgh, are requestled to meet at the Court House in this ! place, on Thursday next, at one oVIock P. M. to take into consideration, the practicability of undertaking this firt bet ! work ; a work too which may be consumniaj ted with little or no inconvenience to our i citizens, provided all are united, and persevering. Not a solitary doubt exists, but I the funds necessary for its prosecution can ! be obtained, on good and reasonable terms. I No person can take a proper view, and Isav this suggestion is idle; in our opinion, ) a more practicable route cannot be found ! in any country, where canalling is practij sed ; the soil is suitable for the purpose, no scarritv of water, and last of all, no doubt of its utilitv. I Look for a moment at the inducements,
and you will not be disheartened by the designing fac, who are disposed to make a mockery of the proposition, all that is necessary "is, that you inhale a small portion of the spirits of Clinton and Clay to make the project appear practicable, which will enable you to persevere with energy and terminate with success; recollect that your Merchandise, Machinery, Iron, Cotton, Salt. $-c. are, at a great expense, conveyed by land; whereas, when this work is completed the transportation will be more expeditious, easy and cheap; also, that the hubandman has not an opportunity of exchanging his surplus produce for cash at any price; and do not forget that our town would be h.. marr for all this beautiful tract of coun

The Detroit Gazette stales that the number of emigrants which have arrived at that port, during the present season,
! may, be estimated at 3,000. A considerj able number have also landed in other ! parts of the territory of Michigan. It is I presumed to be a safe calculation, to estimate the increase in the population of the I territory, during this year, at 50 per cent.
Since the 1st day of May, the sales of public lands, at the Land Oftice in Detroit alone, was 47,052 acres, and the value 60,319 dollars. Considerable sales have
i also been made at the southern land office j of the territory. Detroit itself is a grow
ing place; and, at this moment, boasts ol a theatre; a magician who eats fire; and two menageries, the wild beasts in which are more attractive to the Indians than even whiskey. The crops are all good, and in a forward state; and it was said that sorr.e of the tables on the 4th of Julywould be supplied w ith bread of the present year's growth. A Gazetteer of Michigan is in the press, and may be expected to come out about the 1st of August. Jat. Journal, July 19.
A gentleman in Virginia recently liberated 88 slaves, and paid their passage to Liberia. This munificent example of benevolence, which puts to shame the wordy zeal of a thousand theorists in piety and philanthropy, has been followed by a reverend gentleman in North-Carolina, who has just liberated 11 of his slaves for the same purpose. This voluntary mode of putting an end to slavery will, we hope, find increasing proselytes. It violates no rights real or imaginary; it inflicts injury on no interests nor feelings; it displays a spirit worthy of the freest people in the world; and it proves to demonstration that, while wc are tenacious on the subject of our own frcedon, we are desirous of extending its blessings to all classes of the human race, even at the sacrifice of some of our own personal interests.
