rule. It is crusi, vilifying and unjust in his estimation to advert to kis candidate's public acts; of to publish honest strictures upon his extraordinary conduct. But the cruelty and injustice, if there beanv, lie not in the publication of this matter, but in the transaction itself. There the Editor may pour out his complaints and vent his indignation. But let him not undertake to muzzle the press, nor to hide a scene where Indian generosity was so basely and inhumanly requited. Cincinnati Gazette. Letters received at St. Louis from General Wm.H. Ashly on the 2d inst. state that three Americans (of Major Henry's party) have been killed by the Ricarees on the River Plate, and that the six men reported to have been killed some time past, were killed by a band of a well known Chief of the Ricarees.
