STATE SALES AND USE TAX EFEOTIVE AS OF WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23 ' The sales tax became effective October 23 at 12:01 A. M. Persons selling at retail must have a registered retail merchants certificate as their authority to collect the. tax frnn thfi purchaser. Other wise such seller may be liable for the tax. Most business and profes ninnnl nponle. dealing in tan oihU nersonal property will be required to register and reRpcrlatered Retail Mer chants Certificate which will allow them-to make purchases for resale. For the purpose of collect lm? the sales tax in transac tions constituting selling at retail and for the issuance of demotion certificates in pur chases exempt from the tax, the following are required io obtain a Registered Ketai Mpf chants Certificate: All individuals, firms, partnprshlns. corporations and as sociations selling at retail in Indiana as retail merchants. Generally defined, selling at rntnil as retail merchants monns nprsons who in the or dinary course of a regularly rnndurted business sell any tangible personal property for use or consumption by the purchaser. Wholesalers, manufacturers, public utilities, hotels, motels and other persons regularly rpntimr for Periods of less than thirty (30) days. YOUNG AT HEART HOLDS OCTOBER MEETING
.'Halloween decorations set the mood for the October meeting of the Young At Heart Home lemonstration Club. The creed was led by Bar bara Poindexter and the flag salutes by Betty DeMoss. The song of the month Let There Be Peace On Earth was sung along with Would Be True, led by -Edythe Myers. Devo tions were given by Donna Sabin. She read a story with the thought Eventhing we have h God's Creation 4on"t destroy it with Fires and she closed with a prayer. The lesson on Teaching Children responsibility, was given bv Donna Christopher and Mary Misch. Four main parts were brought out: Kesponsi bility, Self reliance, Relf de termination, and self disci pline. A good discussion fol lowed. The president,' ' -Elizabeth Miller, gave a council meeting report. The New Project Leader Chairman is Neomi Shannon. The Ways and Means committee had a cake walk with cakes going to Barbara Mead ors, Mary Misch and Betty Dp Moss. Contest prizes were won by Donna Christopher and Shirley Mills. Bessie Shanklin received the hostess gift. There were eighteen memIters present and five guests, Mrs. Quinton Dallinger, Mrs. Lhnd Lehe. Mrs. Vincent 1 Jolick, Mrs. Danny Roller, and Mrs. Irene Lear. The hostess was Roberta Dolick and co-hostess, Louise Lear. ' CHRISTIAN LITERATURE WEEK AT CHRISTIAN CHURCH OCTOBER 30 You are invited to attend Christian Literature Week in the Wolcott Chrictian church. Affaln this vear there will be a display of good literature in the southeast room or me church. On Saturday, JNovemoer the sorority will sponsor a dinner-dance at the TipiK'canoe Country Club in Monticello. The committee in charge is Mrs. Dorothea W olfe, Mrs. Barbara Thayer, aim Mrs. Elizabeth Overmeyer. Tickets were distributed to hers to sell. HOSlf AW 'ASSES AWAY Charles: Douglas Hoshaw, passed' age 21, or oicou, away Tuesday, October 1 3th at 3:30 p. in. at the St. Llizaeth hospital at Lafayette af ter being in ill health for a vear. Charles -had been a pa tient at the St. Elizabeth hos pital for three months. The . deceased was born on July 4th, 1942 in Gary. Tndi- ' . - - . i if l - ana, the son or isert iiosnuw and Aileen (Thompson) Hoshaw. Charles, with his parents moved to this community, in 940. He was a graduate of Wolcott High School, in r.mu. Ip was employed at the RCA Company in Monticello until his illness prevented him rrom working. Charles attended the Metliolist church of Wolcott. Surviving include the -fath er, Wert, of l.ogaiisporr. in mother, Aileen. of Wolcott, and -one, brother, Richard Ho shaw who i with the Air Force stationed at McConnell AFB. in Kansas. Services were held at the Methodist church- at .'.2:00 p. m. Thursday with Rev. IT. D. Searcy officiating.-- Interment in the Wolcott cemetery. O. E. S. ENTERTAINS ON FRIENDS NIOHT The Order of the Eastern. Star entertained on Friend Night. The officers had as their special friend, guests from Wolcott. Morocco. ovler, Rensselaer, Kent land.'' Monticello and Remiugt'Oi. Also the District Deputy. Mrs. Myrtle Koupke was present; A Friendship ceremony was given by the Worthy .Matron, Conductress. Associate Conductress,.' Stiir Point and Chaplain, with a large key de noting the Key to the lempie of Friendship. Mis (Mma Jo Provo gave two selections in song.
