On last Saturday at 4:30 p. m. about ... people "from fi yrs. old to 60;'assemoieu a i tne hotel and marched with beating drums and Hying colors to a little cove on Mr. Wildey's premises. ana men the fun began. First of all, every cow in the pasture got her head up, turned tailthat is, turned her tail over her back and ran for dear life. Later, however, one of the boldest, an old bricdle returned to investigate and if she had been invited would have remained to take part iu the fun but Mr. Evangelist, with club in hand, gave her to understand that lie did not come to Vernon to evaugeli.e innocent cows, and eo she departed, a wiser but happier cow. xvner tne pulling of weeds, and piling of stones there followed an impromptu program of short and funny eonSs, speeches and sermons until we Imagined we had about fun enough for one evening but fouud that the program had only fairly begun, Next came races by the girls and races by the boys?, races by the women and races by the men. Next the whole party, old and young was orgauued under two captains and etunts too numerous to mention were pulled oft by opponents selected from each side. At the end of fhe fun and frolic, the more serious business of prenarimr &nA eating lunch was the order of the day. .a nre was ouilded, table cloths gnrrad oa the ground ami all manner of dain ties spread thereon. Perhaps the most ei joyable of these, especially to th. rys rul girls was the roasted weinies and marshma'dows. In conclusion, a vote of thanks was tendered to Mr. and Mrs Ferrell for their tllicicnt leadership on this jolly occasion. The vote was given by clapping of hands, and was hearty and unanimous. At the close of the day the procession wended its way homeward to gel ready to repeat the experience on a larger scale on uext Friday, July 4th. Written hv one who was there.
