Or too reluctant. Half the time it meens nothing. Words only words. This cUcr to refund the money, or to pay a reward, is made under the hope that you wont want your money back, and that you won't claim the reward. Of course. , So, whoever is honest in making it, and works not on his own reputation alone, but through the loeul dealer, whom you know, must have something ho has faith in back of the guarantee. The business wouldn't stand a year without it What is lacking is confidence. Back of that, what is lacking is that clear honesty which is above the "average practice." Dr. Pierce's medicines are guaranteed to accomplish what they are intended to do, and their makers give the money back if tho result isn't apparent. Child 1 2' f.- ' U.UXi.0 ana I5ine Oassimeres, Gent ,nd ChildThat grim monster death visited this community last Saturday and took from our midst Mrs. Milton Noaks, an aged and highly respected latly residing two miles west of this plaee. Deceased was adevoted member of the Presbyterian church, a good neighbor, a kind and loving mother and an affectionate wife. She leaves an aged husband, three sous and a daughter and many friends to mourn her departure Her remains were laid to rest in the Lexington cemetery Sunday afternoon amidst a largo concourse of sorrowing friends. The bereaved husband and entire family have the sympathy of the entire community in their time of trouble. Wm. Clark informs us that tho man who visited -kfm last month and represented hiinsol' to be a brother has since provento &e a fraud. Mr. Clark has a brother lii intr in Kansas whom he has not seen for over 40 years, and no doubt the man was acquinted with Clark's folks as he went under the assumed name of his brother, he also knew Mr. Clark's sister who resides in Kansas, and eaid ehe waited on him during h'13 recent illness. Tho stranger promised to write immediatelyafter returning but failed to do so. This lead Mr. Clark to think that ail was not right, and he wrote to his folks In Kansas, giving them a description of the man. They informed him that no person of that description was ever seen by them. The strangers object is a mystery to tho people of this community. Henry Close of this place while working at Jeffersonvillo last summer fell in lve with his boarding house mistress cook. The courtship was of short duraation and tho couple were made one. Henry thinking that country life was more agreeable than city life, concluded to locate in this county. He rented a farm 2 mile3 east of here and both seemed hap- . py and well pleased with their new home and all went merry as a marriage bell until last Tuesday when Mr. Cloae returned from work he found that his most valuable piece of furniture was gone with all wearing apparel. . His boarding mistress came to this place In the morning hired a horse and closely covered carriage then , proceded to the residence of Henry Close, taking ki3 better half home with her on the next train. Henry followed them the next day with little hopes of recovering his precious jewel. Mrs. Polly Noakes, wife of Milton Noakes, of Lexington township died at the residence of her husband last Saturday aged 74. The Republican reporter this morning learned that a young man had returned from North Veraon, r.fter having taken a, three-weeks' course of treatment for the cure of the habit of drinking strong drinks. Thinking that our readers would probably be interested in learning how the . treatment aUects the person, we called upon him and he told ua the following . ''I had been on a 'highlonesome' or common drunk for some time before I went . up to see Dr. J. II. Green, at North Vernon. The doctor gave me all the whisky I wanted and told me to take a drink aa . often as I wanted to. In about a week after I began treatment.1 did not like the taste of whisky and began to drink beer, but soon got tired of tnat as it tasted to ne like soap sud.s. I now feci like a new man nd have na desire for anything to drink and it makes me sick to smell of a person's bre.-.th who has been drinking. When I went to North Vernon I weighed only 157 pounds and now I weigh 172-, pounds. My appetite is good and it makes . me hungry to see anything good te eat. I wouldn't be in the fix which I was in before I took the treatment foi a thousand dollars.'
