From what ytra see"-in -th papers the peopla may conclude that but little hd3 ben done, but thlt is a mistake. At tha first of the session, of course, come days were occupied in tha work of organisation, electing 'jtcskcr and other offiww end selactingcotnra ittees for the varicas classs-j cf bust n. . With this, also, come the ruin of candidates fur position-, taking up more or les-j time of members. Then there was, also, caucuses for XL S. " Sinalcra and other o Cceis to be filled by the Legislature; but asa general thing, the present Legislature haa lost less., timo than- any other that ever assembled here. But little time has been fool&d away in bumcombe speeches on gtrerai national politics. The greater part of the innnbeH are inclined to be still and not speak much, even if they do not work hard. There are, of course, in 130 men a good many lazy ones, who do but little except vote. But up to this time a large amount of business has been got to a point for decision in the committees and the next few days will decide the late of many bills. One of the most important measures expected from this session is a new apportionment for Representatives and Senators, to correct the present . unfair apportionment. The new bill passed the House after several hard struggles from the tim- it was iatroiuced. It got the entire Democratic vote and all the Nationals and will n doubt pass the Senate in a few days. It is a fair and honest bill and does justice to the peopia according to population. A blj Cght came off' en Friday in tha. House on the fes and salary bill question. The voto and speeches showed that soma measure fur reduction will pass. Your Representative, Mr. Jas. F. Stucker, has introduced tha most g? serai and carefully prepared bill in the House or Senate on this subject. It cut down all salaries from the Governor of SJafe to csunty and township officers. Stucser has made a remarkable act! ve and on ergetle Representative far your district.- He Is always at his post of duty, always votes and says "yes" and "no," m if ho. He. has presented more bills of Importance than any member of the House, having presented about 21 or 22 bills and Rome four resolutions. Stacker's bills nearly all tend to rcduca expenses and bring about 'retrenchment and reform. I will give you a sample of a few of them nd you can judjefar yeursc'f: A bill ta abolish the cSca of C rnty Sp-rlnt-".:lcnt cf rrhordj arid appoint an Examiner; a bill to r.io!i:h tho rT.e of To'vnsMp As;;r an 1 hive tae duties dene by Township Trii'.tr::; an i;ct to limit the grr. The Antietatii National Cemetery is situated on a hill contiguous to the town, ia which 4,654 Federal soldiers are buried. These heroes fell ia - the c-debrated battles of' Antsetam and South Mountain. " Tha cemetery grounds are arranged with great taite andprecision, and enclosed by a. substantial iron fence. At the head of each grave is a marble slab bearing the name and regiment of the .soldier whose resting place It marks. On my way to Skarpsbur I passed over the celebrated An tietarn battle ground. One would think that eighteen years would aim est effect all traces of the teiribl strite, but many marks' yet remain as witneiies of this great battle. The Sharpsburg turnpike 8iems to have been the dividing line between the contending armies and the "post and rail" fence on each side is, in some places, literally riddled by rifle and grape shot, especially along the "cornfield" in which Hooker's corps did such valiant fighting. Standing upon the observatory in the cemetery, the visitor has a fine view of ihe whole field. Off to the eait, about one mile, we saa the residence of Phillip Pry, where Gen. MvCIeilan ; had his -headquarters during the fight, ' and ' about the same distance west the residence cf Stephen P. Groves Lee's head, .quarters. Less than a mile southeast a biidge spans the Antietam croek, across which Burnside literally cut his way under a raking Sre of grape and canister, in consequence f which, it is now called Burnside's bridge. A short distance north is the "bloody lane," and a little farther on, tho Dunkard church, a small, brick strueture, which was so' riddled by shot and shell. . I v:w credibly informed . that there were-several openings in the walls through which a man might crawl. This house has been repaired and Is yet occupied by tho ' Dunkards,an!
