To (he Editor of the Keics Sir; I notice In a recent issue of the News that I am delinquent in taxes for the sum of fS.2t),and a tract of land advertised in my name to be sr?d to pay such delinquent. I desire to state through your paper to my old friends and acquaintances, who are unacquainted with the facts, that I sold the land in question about Dec. 1st, 1875, having paid all taxes up to that" time. I have always paid my taxes, promptly, at the proper time, which the books will show, and have nover i4 my life owed a cent of delinquent tax, nor been honored by a visit from a deputy tax collector, and I don't wish to be followed up by that irrepressible tramp, the News. which I believe goes everywhere, and be reported as having failed to pay mytaxes. Now, Mr. Editor, if you will give this a place la your columns you will greatly oblige a f.iead. Elijah Tower. The whole trouble in ttu3 case is that the party to whom Mr. Tower sold his land, has failed to have it transferred and his deed recorded and it still remains- upon the records in Mr. Tower's name. Our county e dicers are not to blame in the matter. Ed. News. Set Up Your liar at Home-. From C. T. Campbell's Eceturc, MarGeli, Ky. Barkeepers in this city pay, on an average, 2 per gallon for whisky. One gallon contains average of sixty-five drinks, and at ten cents a drink tho poor nun pays vG.50 per gallon for his whisky. In other words, $2 for the whisky and $ 1.50 for handing it over the bar. Make your wife your barkeeper. Lend her $2 to buy a gallon of whisky for a beginning and every time you want a drink go to her and pay her tea cents' for it. By the time you have drank a gallon she will have G.S0, or enough money to refund the 2 borrowed of you- to pay for another galloa of liquor, and have a baUne of 2.50. She will be able to conduct future operations on her own capital; when you become an inebriate unable to support yourself, ?h ironed and despised by all respectable persons, y ur wifti will have money enough to keep yoa until you get ready to till a drunkard's grave.
