The cases of tba State vs. Heard and Elliott, charged with assault and battery upon Henry Stalcup, were tried Saturday and resulted in the acquittal of the defendants. Mrs. Ashly Yates died last Wednesday, after a long and piinful illness, ot consumption. Her remains were interred in the cemetery in this tdace Sunday. Wm- L. Reed, surviving partner of the firm of Allen & Reed, of Orleans, was in town last week on business connected with the settlement of the affairs of that firm. Mr. and Mrs- John J. Simmons pass-, ed throueh town Monday on their way to visit relatives und friends in Frt.nch Lick township, preparatory to starting to their "far western homo" in Colorado. While patting up ice for J. M. An drew last week, Enoch Burnett was struck in the back by a large cake that was thrown from a wagon into the ice house and serious'y injured.
