nearest I. hit kmith shop and have an iron collar made and placed around their necks mjoI have inSiriootl thereon in huge Setters "my dog A. Lincoln," and at the same tine leferreil to them as "Lincoln dogs and hirelings." This f ul lie has time and again been met and refuted, but ju-t as often it is reiterated by those who would rather tell a lie than till the tttrh. Hon. Joseph E. MeDorn b!, now Uniti-d States Sena tor, has tiaie and again state I that lie was pre-eut with Mr. Voorhees when he niade the peec! in S.ilHvan, Aug. o'h 10-, and that no such language vv s used, in reference to tie soldiers. In addition to this Mr. Voorhees' friends line met the damnable slander with the idfida vits of tare nuai'aei of the best known and most reputable citizens ,f Sullivan county, who weio present and swear that Mr. Voorhees did not use such language. In the last issue of the Sullivan Democrat, the editor thereof, Mr. Murray Bnggs, who opposes Mr. Voorhees in his Senatorial aspirations, on account ot which the Democrats have started a new Democratic paper in that town, says, speaking of this sam-.i ehaige. "We know the charge to be a base falsehood, not manufactured out of whole cloth howover, fur lied id use. the langu'g my dog A. Lincoln," but he was not talking ;d)out the soldiers, but about the inconsistency of those men who howled for free speech in discussing the slavery question a short time before, but now were for suppressing free speech on the part of Democrats. There weie plenty of people in that Vast audience who had brothers and sons in the army, and the utterance of such a sentiment about the soldiers would have produced a profound sensation then and there. It is a well-known fact here that nobody heard anything of it until they saw the statement in tho Indianapolis radical organ. An affidavit was signed by a large number of reputable and well known gentlemen, who not only swear that they did not hear any sut li remark about the so!diers, but that they paid close attention to tho whole speech, and that Mr. Voorhees in no instance spoke disrespectfully of the soldiers. The old fdandor has. been worn threadbare, but is still in tde to do duty in the intense hatred of the llopublicans Against Mr. Voorhees." "Pax, "and the Republican, havinggiven it currency again, will stick to it, knowing it tobea lie, because their deep seated and malignant hatred for Mr. Voorhees will not permit them to te'.l the truth about him. Democrats of Orange county, hurl the foul, slanderous lie back into their teeth in October. In his bloody shirt appeal to the voters of Orange county, "Pax" charges Ine Democrat with gi ing Central Shields, -ikI other Democratic soldiers, the "go by," ia favor of some confederate soldier or sympathiser The tcasiori he refers to wns when Ben Butler, for thepuqose of making political capital, placed General Shields, who was not a candidate for the position, in nomination against the regular Deu.i-crutie, caucus, nominee for doorkeeper of tin; last House. The Drnn ciats voted fur their nomini e, as they wire in honor bound to do, after which to test the gcid Jaitli of the Republicans, at.d their pretended love for Democratic, Union soldiers, a bill was introduced to pLc-e Gen. Shu-Ms, the battled scarred hero of two wars on the retired list, with the tar.k and pay of a Brigadier General of the regular army. The I'lepublicar.s voted against and ib. ft all dit. Why wasn't "Pax" h,;;csi enough to kU that? It didn't suit bis vile purju-isL'S.

"Pax," you old bloody shirt shaker, what do you think of thai? Who got the "go by" that time? The Republicans are making a still hunt for ropiesentalivo. They Trill make no nomination, but have ther man already chosen, whose name will be printed on their tickets for that office. They hope by this means to quiet Democrats and render them inactive. The Nationals will have a man out, and the Republicans expect that ticket to draw off enough Democrats to enable them to slip in and quietly elect their man before vs hardly know it. If they do Orange county's vote will be cast for kid gloved, aristocrat ie, hard money, Ben Harrison. Democrats of Oraog" county, will you be taken in by the little game. We are told that the Republicans have decided not to make any nomination for Representative. Democrats don't be fooled and thrown off your guard by any such statements. They are making a still hunt and have their candidate already selected, whose naase will be printed on their ticket and whom they will vote for on election day, hoping by the aid of the national ticket to elect.
