The fight over the nomination for the Sheriffalty between the Bepub' ican aspirants is wxing hotter and hotter, and each of the three feels confident that his pence, calling and nomination is sure and that his opponents don't stand a ghost of a chance. Mr. Wm. J. Frazer, who has been attending the Theological seminary at Prince! on, Xew Jersey, during the past year, preached at th Presbyterian church Sunday evening to a crowded house. Deceased, who was 18 yeara of age, was taken sick uii the Sunday previous to "his death, and 'from the first his illness was of so serious a nature that those around him realized that his days on earth were numbered. He was a young man of brightintellectual promise and noted for, his moral uprightness and genial and kindly nature. By his many noble traits of character heiiad endeared himself to M with whom he came in contact unci we can truthfully say that an entire community truly and sincerely mourns his death and sympathises with his bereaved family and friends. Early in life he connected himself with the M. E. church and lived and died i Christian, His remains were interred at Wesley Chapel Cemetery Sabbath morning, the funeral discourse being delivered by Rev. B. F. Julian, after which brief remarks upon the life and character of the deceased were delivered by Rev. Samuel Hicks and by Prof. Wm. P. Pinkham.
.We publish elsewhere notice of a dissolution of the copartnership heretofore existing between Thos. B. and Jno. B. Buskirk, in the publication of the News. All per sons indebted to us will pe expect ed and required to make prompt settlement. We have lieretolore been lenient, too much so lor our own trood. and we trust that all persons indebted to us will make speedy settlement and save us the unpleasant and disagreea ble necessity of resorting to law to get what is due us. The festival at Orleans last night was a decided success. The spa cious hall, Graves's, whs filled to overflowing with the youth and beauty of Orleans and vicinity and all enjoyed themselves to the fullest extent. The -edibles pre pared were delicious and abund ant. The occasion was enlivened by excellent music furnished by the Mitchell nd Taoli Silver bands. Peter Mahan, Esq., of Stamperscreek township, is dangerously ill. Mr. Mahan is the oldest inhabi tant of our county, b iing now in his Doth year, and until recently has been very spry and active for one of his extreme old age. It i3 to be hoped that the old veteran will at least be spared to reach his centennial. The money raise I to build the school house side walk has all been expended r.nd the wdk is not quite completed. The lumber is all on the ground and paid for, hut there is no money to pay the work men for putting it dDrn. It will take but a trifle to finish it and our citizens should furnih the means at once. The Red Itibbonites of Orleans are preparing for a grand celebration on the coming Fourth of July, All tho temperance organizations, churches and Sabbath schools of the county are expected to cooperate and aid In making it the grandest demonstration ever given in the county.
